I can't think of a better time or excuse to strap on my backpack and take a little trip. It pretty much demolished everything . . .

My place had more damage than anyone else I've seen or talked to, except for the old buildings downtown which were already condemned.
It was pretty creepy actually. Joe and I were talking about how boring and mundane life had become and decided this morning to pack up and go. Once we got home I looked around at all the stuff I'd collected and made a home with and sighed, "But what about all this . . . " ? Then all of a sudden the walls started swaying like water and if Joe hadn't pulled me onto the bed right when he did I'd have two broken legs.

I was so scared I couldn't open my eyes and it wasn't until it was all over that I realized it had been an earthquake. The car was crushed under the awning outside and a phone booth.

My kitchen counter, stove and sink were pulled out from the wall.

The wall in the bathroom started to split, tiles popped out all over the place. The ceiling was sagging a bit, doors won't close very well. My heater bounced out of the wall leaving a big hole.

My bookcase practically exploded. And I have never seen so much broken glass and random debris in one place. All the furniture fell to the middle of the room.
And my next door neighbor (who lives right in the same building) said all that happened there were a few pictures falling from the wall . . .

Wow. I'm just glad you're okay, pwny.

Ah, yeah. Nobody got seriously injured. Amazing!

But, it basically ruined everything I own. Which kind of rocks because now I have no excuse to not go.

Just waiting on my tax return and Joe and I are off on our little adventure.

Oh my god. It's good you weren't hurt. Do you know anyone that was?

I'm sorry about your place. At least you were planning on leaving.

My sister recently moved to San Fran, I'm terrified she's going to die in an earthquake.

The worst injury we had in the whole town was a broken arm. If Joe hadn't been there I'd have been knocked unconcious and my legs snapped in half.

But, he was. He's my hero.

I'm not too sorry about my place. It was a piece of crap anyhow. And stuff is just stuff. It gets in the way.

well, you have a great attitude. Did Joe pull you out of the way of something falling?

Do small earthquakes indicate bigger ones to come in surrouding areas?
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 2/22/08 - 4:32:17 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah, my entertainment center, the t.v., dvd player, a whole bunch of kerosene lamps, a table, microwave and full coffee pot . . .

It all just exploded out from the walls. I thought the devil had come for me . . . seriously, I had no idea what was going on. We don't get earthquakes here.

Still getting alot of after shocks. They were expecting another and bigger quake, but so far it hasn't happened. Joe and I curled up together under the blankets and waited, but nothing. Just after effects. Some made it up to 3.0 though.

I've been in a few earthquakes; a couple major ones.

Had no *real* serious damage; I'm glad you all made it out OK!!!

Once you get through the big ones, the little ones are kinda fun. It's just like an occasional jolt to remind you of your mortality.

J2, you live in San Fran right? Are you scared that you will find yourself in an enormous earthquake.

I just decided to look stuff up about this, and scientists predict another quake the size of the 1906 event or bigger within the next 30 years.

I remember reading something about how scientists were predicting in the 90s the 3 biggest disasters that were likely to occurs in America. 1 was a largescale terrorist attack, 2 was a huge hurricane in the south and 3 was a huge earthquake in Cali. 2 of the 3 have happened, now we are just waiting on the 3rd...

I don't live in San Fran, I live about 70 mi south or so, but on a very, very large fault as well (san andreas). I'm not too afraid of the earthquakes, (the apt I'm in was obviously built long before the 80's earthquake, and the fact that it stood through that proves to me it's a tank) but I'm definitely afraid of tsunamis!
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 2/22/08 - 4:58:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
I've seen tornados, hurricanes and lost a house to fire, I could probably get used to the quakes too.

Tsunamis? No thank you!

Wow, pony seriously, you've run the gamut haven't you?

i'm scared for my brother in law, he works in a really tall building.

Well, I'm going to the red cross tomorrow, they said they can give me like a bag of oranges or apples.
I'm taking most of my clothes to my sister's house where I'll probably be doing most of my sleeping when not at Joe's.

This next paycheck I'm going to Elko to get Joe and I a couple of good packs and first aid kits. We'll more than likely be sticking around for a couple more months anyway, so there's still time.
No sense in wandering out into the wilderness in the middle of winter . . .

Wish I'd taken a couple pics of my place before we cleaned it up some. But, it's still pretty bad . . . I'll take some tomorrow. Here are some from a few buildings down the street from my place.
