My boss has just been fired. Of course AFTER she has worked her 8 hour shift.

Another co worker who just found out her child has cancer was fired also.

It's about the money people...nothing more than that.

My boss has been there for 5 years, and my co worker has a long road ahead of her..both cost the company money.

Those who say we are not going to see a recession think again. I am in the medical field and they have cut as many corners as they can...and we are spread so thin.

If you think for a moment, that they would not cut corners to endanger a residents/your health, think again.

I just got the call and the reason my boss was fired was for not covering the Christmas shift when someone called out. Of course, I covered it for her, and the person who called out wasn't reprimanded(she *um* slipped on ice, but was fine the next day)I make consdierable less than my boss, but there was are.

I could cry if I wasn't so angry.

It is about money. They could fire those folks, or give crappy medical care and keep everyone. Which one would you prefer?

Oh dear
*Hugs*

That's rather sh*tty.
I hope her child is going to be okay.

What is your job title?

Damn, that sucks the big one.

It seems so unfair to fire someone for not covering someone else's shift.

Spread as thin as we are, how can you give quality care?

I now have to take care of 15 residents by myself. Legal, hell no...but "technically" they will have someone show up on my floor every 3 hours to check up on me, to give the appearance of 2 workers....ways to beat around the system.

I am not a nurse, I am a CRMA....byt my job was created because of the shortage of nursing, and its only going to get worse as nurses as leaving faster than they are graduating.

Why do you think that is?

Easy...overworked, and there is that FORCED/Mandated overtime...so if you have a family or relationship, that goes out the window.

Increased culpability-doctors errors become your own, because you are the last stop to check for medical errors. If you can't read his writing and he's not in the building, good luck getting him on the phone or office!

Full beds at Psych centers/hospitals and so they get put in with you and you have to watch them because of threrats to you and others, and you cannot restrain physically/chemically like a Psych unit can.

Understaffing......and YOU are resoonsilbe for errors and a lot of the paperwork is in triplicate as a CYA measure reqiored by the state or company.

You are supposed to get breaks/lunches, but there isn't enough time, so you work through them....of course it is illegal, but what can you do?

They could save money if they took out the coffee from the break room.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 12/28/07 - 11:46:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
It really sucks right now, and I'm afraid it's going to get worse. We're long overdue for a big economic dump.

Is there a worker's union or something that you can call? Just anything to make your workplace more bearable?

It happens everywhere. Not just the medical fields.....a recession is almost here and all the blah blah no way, that is on the News is not making a difference...the people are not dumb, no matter what you say on TV and the papers.

The union tried to get in, but was voted out by fake promises by corporate...now that it's been voted down, corporate is making cuts.

Mind you, 20 people have been fired, 2 were my friends and I grieve......

No. so Maine Care will have to take care of her. It's pretty decent. But really, the timing was aweful. And her husband has MS.

Everything with this child is now a preexisting condition.

That's just... horrible. The whole situation is ridiculous.

And the situation is similar and many dofferent types of work.

I was , I guess, lulled into a sense of safety as I was in the medical field and you c ouldn't be fired for monetary reasons.

Well, THAT changed.

Silly me.
