Okay, I agree that they were the best pre-Super Bowl era. The Bears and Browns come close there though.

Well, again, there's a difference (at least in my opinion) between "best" and "greatest". Dallas has had the most sustained success of any team over the last 45 years, no question - something absurd like 25 straight winning seasons or something.

But 12 is still more than 5 (over twice more). Green Bay also has the second-most victories of any team in league history, I think (behind Chicago), and they've got the second-most Hall of Famers (behind Chicago, again). Now granted, Dallas has probably the longest list of Hall of Fame would-bes, but that can be attributed to their short tenure in the league.

I also don't really see where an argument can be made against a city that's nicknamed "Titletown" and against a franchise whose most famous figure has his name imprinted on the championship trophy every year.

Yeah, Bears and Browns come close. I think Otto Graham is the most underappreciated quarterback to ever play (in the sense that I almost never see him mentioned in debates about the "greatest quarterbacks of all time" with the Montanas and the Unitases and so forth).

Nah. The Steelers, or Cowboys. Even the Niners come before the Packers I think.
I'd have to agree with cpayne on that.(and I hate the Cowboys)
I'm a 49rs fan through thick and thin. Though, I liked it better when thin was a 10-6 season.
(I'm of course going to give my vote to the Niners for their 20ish years of dominance over the 80s and 90s)

You know who is grossly overrated? Ken Stabler, too many people want him in the Hall of Fame, but Steve DeBerg has better numbers overall than he does and look how many times he was replaced as a starter, though they were all necessarily his fault. DeBerg is the king of bad luck. Montana got drafted, so he ends up in Denver a few years later. Then comes Elway, so he goes to Tampa Bay. Young and Testeverde. He didn't catch a break.

The New Orleans Saints.
I've never been afraid to say it.

i'm a steeler fan and always have been.
i remember bradshaw as a rookie. under 40% completions and about 4 times as many interceptions as td's. luckily, he got better

but if you're looking at the total history of them, they're really not all that successful. they'd been in the nfl since the beginning and never went to a playoff game let alone won a championship until 1972..

Why the hell did I have to get all the way to page 2 to see another Bears fan!? Damn, where is the love for Chicago here.

I was born the year the Bears won the Super Bowl(technically), and have always been a fan. This IS the year for the Bears!!!

Redskins.

Because when Channel Four started showing football in Britain, they had John Riggins, Joe Jackobi and that flashy quarterback. Was it Thiesman?

I always thought it would be funny if the Browns' helmets had a picture of a little brown helmet on them.
