President Biden announced the most sweeping COVID-19 vaccine requirements yet on Thursday, which will affect roughly 100 million Americans. The new measures include a vaccine mandate for all federal workers and contractors, and a requirement that large companies must mandate vaccines or regular testing for employees.

"My job as president is to protect all Americans," Mr. Biden said Thursday. "So tonight, I'm announcing that the Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees that together employ over 80 million workers to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week."

Mr. Biden noted that many large companies already require vaccinations. "The bottom line — we're going to protect vaccinated workers from unvaccinated coworkers," he said.

Before conservatives demonstrate their ignorance of their own laws:

This has happened before.

"A lot changed since 1905, including the ways in which the Supreme Court decides if certain laws and statutes violate an individual’s constitutional rights. Starting in the second half of the 20th century, the Court began to recognize certain constitutional rights as “fundamental,” including the freedoms of speech and religion, and personal decisions about marriage, contraception and procreation."

I'm not convinced that if taken to the SC that the ruling will support a vaccination mandate like the Smallpox mandate in 1905.

This one is done through employers (Fed and large companies) rather than applying to everyone, so I also wouldn't be surprised if it did stand up to a court challenge.

Not enough. Testing weekly doesn’t tell me what I need to know to keep myself safe.

What exactly do you need to know to keep yourself safe?

Even vaccinated individuals can transmit the virus.

This is worse than the shutdowns and is a worrisome glimpse of our increasingly socialized economy. This is beyond an over reach.

A lot of people at my work are not vaccinated because I live in a rural area. This is going to prevent the company from expanding. We have a lot of new projects too. I think currently we are under 100 employees but we have the potential to grow. This is literally taking money out of people’s pockets if not outright destroying livelihoods.

Biden wants to protect vaccinated workers?

“ New data suggests the chances of vaccinated people getting COVID-19 are probably about one in 5,000, or .02%, per day, according to The New York Times. The chances may even be one in 10,000, or .01%.”

The CDC says “34,200 deaths during the 2018–2019 influenza season.”

Funny, we didn’t worry about it then.

Which makes sense, but I'm trying to understand what Camel was getting at when he made his 'not enough, I need to know more' comment.

Interesting- - some labor Unions are pushing back on the mandate.

"The National Nurses Union applauded President Joe Biden’s proposal to require that companies with more than 100 employees vaccinate their work force. The American Federation of Teachers once said vaccine mandates weren’t necessary, but now embraces them. In Oregon, police and firefighter unions are suing to block a mask mandate for state workers.

The labor movement is torn over vaccine requirements — much like the country as a whole — wanting to both support its political ally in Biden and protect its members against infection but also not wanting to trample their workers’ rights."

makes sense why nurses and teachers are for it, but i can see why other unions would be split or opposed to it.

What do you mean 'we'?

Some of us are living off the grid, in remote cabins, where we spend hours writing our manifestos...

"It also outlines a waiver process for people who refuse to be vaccinated due to religious and other reasons."

given that some states like CA aren't allowing religious or other exemptions, kind of makes me question the process already. some countries have allowed COVID to spread like wildfire.

How can they not allow religious exemptions? I would think that would be challenged in the courts.

at least for schools here in CA, there are no religious or philosophical exemptions to vaccines.
