Top Border Patrol officials said officers are “overwhelmed” by the influx of migrants at the US-Mexico border, a spiraling “crisis” that intensified this week when a gun battle between rival cartel gangs broke out in a Texas town.

“A week ago I would not have called this a crisis. Today it meets the definition. We are overwhelmed,” Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, told Fox News Wednesday night.

“We do not have the resources to stop the cartels from bringing in illegal aliens, from bringing in drugs, therefore we are in fact in a crisis,” he added.

On Tuesday, President Biden said he did not have any plans to travel to the southern border “at the moment” amid a surge in migrants.

Instead, Biden issued a blunt message to migrants thinking about crossing the border, saying “Don’t come over” when asked by ABC News host George Stephanopoulos.

That's Biden's big solution. Just tell them to stop coming. That should work.

Maybe Biden should consider building some sort of barrier to prevent migrants from easily crossing the border. A wall of some sort.

Wait, I thought there already was one. And that Mexico paid for it. WTF?

?

Why focus on blaming one side or the other? Seems like partisan politics doesn't make much difference on this issue...

Seems Noldor was doing just fine with that.

He's being critical of the solution being put forth by the guy that's currently in charge.

Are you saying that it was partisan blaming when Trump was being criticized for his immigration policies, or are you trying to create a double standard?

you'd think with 40+ years of public service he'd actually have come up with a solution by now. wonder who's writing the checks this time around.

Even your link blames Biden.

"In Arizona, ranchers are complaining that rough roads carved by work crews into hillsides near uncompleted segments of wall now serve as easy access points for smugglers and others seeking to enter the once-remote areas along the border."

"On President Biden's first day in office, he halted construction"

This left portions of the wall unfinished, contracts unpaid,

Trump's 'wall' inadvertently makes things easier for smugglers
Trump's border wall not only failed to make things better, in some ways, the multi-billion-dollar boondoggle made matters quite a bit worse.

We now know, of course, that he failed. Mexico did not finance the pointless, multi-billion-dollar boondoggle, and over the course of four years, the GOP administration managed to add about 47 miles of barriers where none previously existed. It was among the former president's most glaring failures, even as he pretended it was a great triumph.

But while Trump's term ended, the fiasco did not. The New York Times reported in December, for example, that whistleblowers have accused wall contractors of "smuggling armed Mexican security teams into the United States to guard construction sites, even building an illegal dirt road to speed the operation."

New York magazine reported soon after the Biden administration was inheriting a larger mess "involving expensive outstanding contracts, hundreds of miles of unfinished construction, and frustrated parties all along the border." Going to the trouble of taking down barriers would cost taxpayers billions, but contract cancellations aren't free.

The article added that there's some anecdotal evidence of crime getting worse, not better, in U.S. border communities as a result of these new roads.
"As for whether the existing, newly built barriers - - which Trump once described as "virtually impenetrable" - - are having the intended effect, let's also not forget that smugglers have repeatedly sawed through Trump's wall with commercially available, off-the-shelf power tools that cost as little as $100."

it really didn't....did it? It said he inherited a mess and set himself a deadline to make a decision....which is this weekend.

holy drat selective reading.

It's against this backdrop that the New York Times reported today on some of the unfortunate, real-world consequences of Trump's ridiculous initiative.

In some areas, colossal piles of unused steel bollards linger at deserted work sites, next to idled bulldozers and water-hauling trucks. In Arizona, ranchers are complaining that rough roads carved by work crews into hillsides near uncompleted segments of wall now serve as easy access points for smugglers and others seeking to enter the once-remote areas along the border."

That's the full quote you're trying to attribute to blaming Biden. Looks to me like they're blaming the mess he inherited to me.

Hasn't Biden blamed all the bad stuff on Trump so far?
1 month ago - Thursday 3/25/21 - 4:52:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
Even calling it 'Trump's wall' is an attempt to blame Trump.

The article pointed out that 654 miles of the 701 mile border wall was there when Trump took office.

The failure to complete the wall was not because of Trump, but because the Democrats kept blocking funding for the wall. And Biden is the #1 reason today that the wall is not being funded. He is not even allowing the completion of things that did get funded. His idea of border control is a complete joke. And hence that's why there is now a crisis at the border. The border patrol is under-staffed and underfunded and they are unable to do their job. It's amazing how people like you and the media try to pin this on Trump.

At this point, isn't talking about the border wall just a deflection from the current crisis at the border?

They're basically the same discussion

"US President Joe Biden was pressed on how he would address the surge in migrants at the southern border at his first official press conference.

More than 17,000 children are being kept in government detention centres and Mr Biden was challenged on whether his policies could be contributing to the increase in child arrivals."
