On a train with a fascist - Mood:Good |
|
Thursday November 19 20096:11:04 PM |
| | I went to London yesterday to hang out with my palaeontological brethren and talk about really small fossils and evolution. Needless to say, there were lots of stuffy old men with beards, one or two stuffy old women with beards- and lots of pointless wittering. But two really good research presentations out of six isn't so bad- one was about asexuality in modern ostracod populations and one was about fossilised embryos. Anyway, while I was on my way back home, I found myself sitting next to a fascist. I know this because he was wearing a white supremacist badge on his bomber jacket alongside a George Cross and a Union Jack, he had a skinhead, stank of booze and didn't say a word to me- although I stared at him all the way from Warrington to Chester. It made me feel really sad to see him wearing my flags like that, I felt a bit like he'd hijacked my national identity. |

Day trip to Bangor - Mood:Good |
|
Friday November 13 20098:02:21 PM |
| | I bet no one gets that reference. So tomorrow I'll be attending my first tutorial at Bangor with the OU, I'm a little apprehensive but mostly I wish I'd spent a bit more time studying and a bit less time putting it off. Hopefully this will provide me with the kick up the arse I need. Also, I'm hoping to get some photographs of some serious incoming weather. If they're any good ones, I'll post them. In other news, I burned myself making toffee apples a fortnight ago, it was pretty sore at the time, but now they're healing nicely and I'm very much on the mend. When was the last time you injured yourself in the kitchen and how long did it take to heal?

Got a new Archdruid - Mood:Good |
|
Saturday November 07 20099:28:02 AM |
| | The old archdruid died, which was sad because he was a nice man, but he was 70-something. I was kinda hoping the new archdruid would have a beard, but no. No beard. I was thinking about writing to the Gorsedd and insisting new critera are in place for choosing archdruids- and one of them should be a beard... even if it's a woman. Doubtless, this will be received badly. Also, the new dude may be an accomplished poet- but he's also a screenwriter for a soap opera. I think they could have done better. True story. |
