It will end. Even if a huge asteroid never slams into the Earth... even if a super volcano, aliens, or intelligent machines (see : The Terminator) do not kill off all life on Earth... the sun will swell into a red giant, and consume the Earth. And even if the sun does not swell out that far... what happens to what is left of the Earth ? It may last a very long time as a charred chunk of rock, but eventually would fly off into space... collide with another body... and/or disintegrate.

In about 5 billion years the sun will enter the red giant phase of its life and engulf the earth.

Yes, Earth will eventually become eradicated, but humans will most likely be extinct at that point.

Two answers to this one:

1. Educated world: It is inevitable that at some point in our planet's future it will become uninhabitable by our species. This may be due to a collision with another object, the progression towards death of our sun or some other as yet undetermined cause. The more we understand about science though, the greater our chance of finding alternate habitable worlds or extending the habitable time on this world. Science has the answers, we just need to toil towards unlocking those secrets.

2. Uneducated world: It's up to God.

Long, long before 5 billion years from now, this planet will be a lifeless rock.

The sun is getting progressively hotter. In about 350 - 375 million years, it will no longer be possible for liquid water to exist on our planet. No water, no life.

That's nice, but why any time the earth or science is discussed, people have to turn into a theological debate is beyond me. You don't believe in god? Cool, we get it.

It is done to counter the idiots who bring gods up as an answer to scientific issues.

I believe it will end like everything does. But I hope we don't see it in our life time.
