20/30 = x/28
28*20 = 30x
560 = 30x
x = 560/30
x = 18.6666666666666...
i'm barely legal.

Wait. Did you do that right? My figure says I'm 29ish. That's relative to the old 20, right?

4 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 5/2/16 - 3:43:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
that is how you solve a proportion yes.
|
|
4 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 5/2/16 - 3:47:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
um... relative to 20 being 30. if 30 is 20 then 28 is 18 and 2/3.

4 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 5/2/16 - 10:31:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
and 29*30/20 = 43 which is what it says in your profile.

4 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 5/2/16 - 10:32:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
so no one should drink until they're 21*30/20 = 31.5.

4 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 5/2/16 - 10:38:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
will you still need me, will you still feed me, when i'm 64*30/20 = 96

4 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 5/3/16 - 10:32:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
Wait. Why doesn't it go the other way, though? If 30 is the new 20, why am I not 66ish?
|
|
4 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 5/3/16 - 10:34:20 AM EST (GMT-5)
Why not 43:20 = 2.2ish:1, so 2.2 X 30 = 66?

4 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Friday 6/10/16 - 12:13:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
because the denominator and numerator are specified locations in a proportion?
and if you put 43/20 = x/30...
oh or are you saying...
43/30 = x/20
because you could do that but you'd have to keep the corresponding numbers together. it has to be new number on top and old number on bottom. that's how i set it up. or it would have to be...
real number over real number = new number over new number.
there's no relation between your current age and the hypothetical ratio age...
or...
your options to solve are...
43 your real age
/
30 the real age in the hypothetical
=
x your new age
/
20 the new age in the hypothetical.
there's no relationship between...
your real age and the new age in the hypothetical.
they are not a ratio.
i should never try and teach anything.
