Technically speaking, does having a backup plan mean that you don't 100% believe in plan A?
If you believed 100% in plan A, there wouldn't be a need for a backup plan, no?

It also means you know nothing is perfect, things can fail.
It's being extremely cautious.
And also knowing that external factors can sometimes undermine what was intended to be 100% (from your end).

There is almost no plan that will work 100% of the time and even having several backup plans may not have the outcome we want. Some things don't require a plan per se, as you can improvise and adjust to the situation and excessive planning won't take into account what actually happens.

Maybe... but I can also see how having a back-up plan is like a safety net that gives you more confidence while still using Plan A.

And sometimes it's not so much that people *have* a Plan B already in place as it is that they transition quickly and improvise quickly.
