Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson (FSY), who made two gay slurs within a 24-hour period, was given what amounts to a one-game suspension, but Johnson's agent said he would appeal. Agent Peter Schaffer said the game check and other lost revenue would amount to about a penalty of about $600,000 for the former two-time Pro Bowl player.

His personal life should have nothing to do with his professional life...that's not fair.

That's like me getting fired because I rented a porno movie after work...what I do outside of work is my business.

His Twitter is a publicly available thing, it's not private when any person with an internet connection can find and read it.

Yes, he did deserve some kind of penalty for this, just like he would have deserved a penalty for any other inappropriate slur. Athletes know that they have to act appropriately and respectfully in public when they agree to the job, and the internet is a public resource.

The question leaves you hanging a bit...

He wasn't suspended JUST for that tweet. He was suspended for that in a long line of other tweets over a 48 hour period in which he also threw his coach under the bus for having never played the game. If I tweet that my boss is an idiot, then I should expect at least a suspension too.
