it takes a whole 30 seconds to wipe off the whole windshield.
And those 30 seconds aren't so precious that I'm willing to risk my life to save them |

Wow, I had no idea what that meant when i saw it. and that's never happened where I live. Twice in the middle of winter I came out to my car in the early morning with ice on it and threw a bitch fit while scraping it for wasting me those precious 30 seconds.
actually for me it was more like 5 minutes. I don't get practice for this sh!t. |

I tend to let my car warm up before it's time for me to leave, and I scrape everything off. I'm not playing with my safety, and especially the lives of people I drive with. |

I wouldn't ever drive like that. |

Ummm not with that small a hole but have a driven without completely clearing the windshield, damn right. It would have taken me 45 minutes to clean the car completely. I did it in 20 and called it sufficient. |

No, but only because it never gets that cold around here.

I don't disagree with the point that it's important to make sure you have a good field of vision, but 30 seconds, really? I've had some pretty heavy duty ice before that takes far longer than that, and that's just in Ohio - it's not like I live in Siberia... |

It takes 5 minutes to scrape off the ice from the windshield, so yes. |

I think you all just suck at scraping ice |

I think you need to let me borrow your diamond-tipped heated chainsaw that you use to magically rid your car of ice in 30 seconds. |

Yeah me too. When I am trekking out in -10 degree weather in to two feet plus of snow and then I need to remove all the snow plus the half inch sheet of ice covering all the windows plus the locks so I can even get the door open, I would love your magic car cleaner. |

i have done it, but down here there aren't many chances for ice on the windshield |

I'd want my windshield MUCH MUCH clearer than that to drive (like, 90% or more clear). I've driven with a less than ideal *rear* windshield though (still far clearer than the photo), but I didn't like it very much.
And I agree, if it's ice, FAR more than 30 seconds. Around here, it's usually a "wintry mix," which doesn't just brush off. Even a can of spray de-icer and all the elbow grease I've got can take several minutes. |

Not if there's ice - that can take AGES. One time my husband and I got home to the airport after an ice storm and we worked at that car for half an hour before some kind Samaritan came over to help us finish the job. It was awful.
I admit I've been guilty of this at times, but usually when I'm not going far and I always clear the back as much as I can as well then let the defroster get the rest once I'm going! |

No. I go out and turn on my car about 15 minutes before I have to leave.
One of these days, I'll get a remote starter. |

No, if it's cold and icy enough outside to ice my windshields, then driving conditions are probably more hazardous. I take the time to defrost the whole window, even though it sucks. |

30 seconds? Ha. You must live in a warm place. in some areas, you get a thick layer of ice that just cannot be scraped off in mere minutes. You need both the windshield defroster and a heckuva lotta elbow grease to make a dent in it some mornings. |

Even with that stuff it can still take 45 minutes when you have an inch of ice. Once last year, I worked on my car for an hour (emptied a can of that stuff). I couldn't even start my car early because it took half an hour or so just to be able to open my door which was frozen shut. Finally I gave up and called in to work. I only make money if patients actually come, anyway. I only had a couple on the schedule, and I doubt they wanted to make the drive either. |
