it'll certainly be some kind of evolved form I'm sure but I'll hesitantly say 'yes' - - curious to see other opinions on this |

when was the last time all animals our size were wiped out by an extinction event? that would be a good indicator |

not necessarily. it's not like it's a regular thing |

looks like enough info to discuss the likelihood of getting through another million years though...like if we've been clear for 65m years and they tend to hit every 100m say |

We already have survived a near extinction as paleolithic humans, so I'm pretty sure we can survive a few more million years. |

Basically the question boils down to whether science can keep up with the potential changes to our environment. If not, then the selective pressure fuels evolution, or we go extinct.
Personally, I'll say yes, there will be humans, or at least something very humanoid. |

no. we will cause enough global warming to kill ourselves within the next 10-20 years I think. |

Humans are arguably the most resilient and adaptable species on Earth. Homo sapien as a species has been around for 250,000-400,000 years, according to Wikipedia, and we've done extremely well since then. Even the worst plagues and natural disasters in recorded history have only wiped out relatively small portions of the human population, so there's a pretty decent chance of humanity surviving 1 million more years.
The only thing I can think of that would effectively cause human extinction is the destruction or near-destruction of Earth and its satellites, and possibly its immediate planetary neighboring bodies. In a million years, though, it's very likely that humans will be populating other planets. |

Not necessarily true, things like the Toba catastrophe theory have suggested that the human population has undergone a significant bottleneck in the past because of global events.
Of course, that was 70,000ish years ago, and the population almost certainly wasn't as large and distributed then as it is now, not to mention technology etc. etc. yada yada. |

Humans reproduce themeselves so fast that we are actually killing the planet... so lets move out or we die... |

You're only referring to the Big 5, there have been loads of smaller extinction events since KT. Also, extinction's aren't just caused but extraterrestrial impact- there can be a lot of contributing factors- it's much more complicated than rocks from space.

Hm. I´ve been thinking about this. Let´s assume something terrible happens, and lots of people die. Do you think we would be able to mantain our society as it is now; with it´s high grade of specialization? I think we would fall back to stone age; and most of us would have no idea about how to survive in such a scenario...

I was just attempting to justify my earlier statement that knowledge of the pattern of events big enough to kill every single human would be useful- - who said anything about restricting it to asteroids? |

I apologise, your reference to KT and usage of the word 'hit' read like asteroids caused mass extinctions. |

The planet's fine. We might kill OURSELVES from overpopulation, though. |

Nah, we'd just have a little unsustainable acme and then starve off until we're back down to manageable numbers.

That, crazy psychopath robotic ninjas, talking cats and dogs, colossal spiders, and hookers that are annoying as hell, though they are already.
But that comes from the mind of me. I don't really know. |

The end will come FAR before that.
I doubt we'll be around in the 100 years. |
