I'd be interested in your opinions on both questions:
1. Should games such as RapeLay be banned?
2. Are murder video games better or worse than rape video games, and why?

Wow. Just wow.
Traditional violent video games don't bother me much. But this is utterly disgusting.
Killing somebody isn't always a clear wrong (self-defense, arguably war, etc). Rape is always wrong. That's my justification for why this is much worse. Also, simply I must ask who the hell would want to play this game except sick rapists? (and child molesters at that). It's so disturbing.

There's actually a great Slate article on this, here's the link.
Link
The article sketches out how the controversy is largely fabricated, the game was never going to actually be sold and now exists largely as download able content on the internet, which is impossible to ban.
The real question here though is how many times are we going to go through this tired old debate? I was under the impression that every intelligent person already committed themselves to the idea that we can only have freedom of speech if the worst forms of freedom are protected and that we can't talk about going against the 1st Amendment no matter how grossed out we are.
And yet, time and time again we find new levels of grossness and reopen the pointless debate. You can't ban speech or censor it, period.
Also, consider the second question..(cont)

I could turn around right this second and put in my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV(really), grab a car, and start a drive by shooting. I could get out and start lobbing grenades at by standards, and then pull out my rocket launcher to take down the police that is coming to stop me. I could shoot, blow up, and downright stab to death hundreds.
Indeed I have killed something like 1500 hundred people in the new game Killzone 2 already, they gave me a trophy for it.
I strongly believe murder is worse than rape, and certainly tons of murders are worse than a few rapes, right? When did we decide we were OK with any amount of graphical violence but still decided to retain our hypocrisy?

I'm not going to punk out by simply saying it doesn't matter because the game can't be banned and was never licensed in the US anyway.
I think those of us who actually believe in freedom of speech need to bite the bullet and not contradict ourselves. If someone wants to make a rape simulator game than their only judgment can be moral and economical. Hopefully the game won't sell, but you can't ban it.
You also cannot make any justification for the levels of violence video games allow that have nothing to do with self defense or war. GTA IV allows you to murder countless innocent people, in fact I would say a good portion of video games allow you to murder characters that they don't even try and justify as evil.

I don't like to rank crimes like murder and rape and say which is worse...
But I do admit that rape games give me more of a sense of repulsion somehow.
However, I don't agree to banning them.

I find it highly objectionable, but I'm always hesitant to support any kind of censorship.

I believe that it's nobody's business to limit what I can or can't do at home, like designing sick and twisted games or actually playing them. I'm obviously excluding things like harming other people or breaking the law from the list here.
If anyone can't differentiate between fantasy and reality or is retarded enough to reenact a game in real life, that's their problem really. And just because THEY have psychological problems doesn't mean that you have to limit MY freedom as well!

Most murder games have objectives which must be planned for outside of just killing. The sole objective of this game is rape. Games like GTA do actually develop certain thinking skills that can be applied in non-violent situations, I don't see anything of the sort in this game.

Agreed with the anti-censorship folks. It's reprehensible, disgusting, terrible, etc. But if you don't like it, vote with your wallet by not supporting it.

if there is a scene where players can rape a ten year old doesn't that change things a bit? a question to all the usual 'never censor' crowd.

I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that this game is not "pretty good." It has pedophilia as a major part of it, which kind of ruins any chance it had of being a good game.
That being said, I don't think this game could actually be banned in a way that is consistent with the First Amendment, but I seriously wish that it could.

I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not that the game scored an 8/10 user score on one of those review websites.

I actually believe this is worse than a 'murder video game.' Most games that involve murder have other goals of the game as well, like Rhinox said. The whole purpose of this game RapeLay is to stalk girls and rape them.
That is worse than shooting games. In shooting games you are shooting gangs, criminals and aliens. Is a 10 year old a criminal or an alien? Or is her mother or sister!
Of course not and anyone who needs to play this game to get their power needs their balls chopped off.

That's not even true, and even if it were, are you just basically saying that if you are in a gang, commit a crime, or are a soldier or alien, you have no value to your life at all? How is that any better? We are just sending the message that you can default all your human rights by the slightest indiscretion.

CaptainTrips is right on the money with all of his posts. Couldn't have said it better myself (mostly because I'm not nearly as eloquent.)

...That wasn't what I was saying.
Of course everyone deserves to live. But the object of most shooting games is to kill people that are your enemies. For example, In Call of Duty 4 the setting is World War II, and you are an soldier destroying the axis power countries.
In RapeLay, the women aren't your enemies.
