No, what about depression?
13 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 5/23/06 - 10:46:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
I say it could be, very vaugely.
Depression can vaugely sprout from envy and addicting can vaugely be called gluttony.

I believe in the devil as an actual spiritual entity, so I'd point to him as the cause of evil, but most problems can be subcategorized into the 7 deadlies, yes. There are a few exceptions, and I think some, like the depression and addiction KikiPeepers incompetently cstegorized, could be explained as a member of different groups.

All but lust, yeah.

haha, i guess so, but a more fundamental reason that the world is so full of tyranny and chaos and 'evil' is that people do not know who they truly are.

if people knew themselves to the cores of their beings, there could only be love and peace and abundance.

Is it: Lust, gluttony, envy, pride, greed, sloth, and WRATH, or is it avarice instead of wrath???? OR are they the same thing?? ?-(
12 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 9/13/06 - 8:04:42 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would attribute most of the world's problem to greed.
12 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 9/13/06 - 8:07:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think the "Seven deadly sins" contribute alot to what is wrong with the world. Not because they are god-determined, just because they are human failings that tend to end up hurting others.

Well, they are so broad, that yes, theres no way everything bad couldn't be the rest direct or otherwise.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 2/4/07 - 10:37:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
There are no such things as "deadly" sins, per se, all sins are deadly and no sin is any more deadly than any other. The catholic church, and more specifically Pope Gregory came up with the idea of deadly sins, however the Bible speaks of all sins being equally deadly. The reason is because NO sin is allowed into heaven, and therefore a "small" sin is just as bad as a "big" sin and so we must be cleansed of that sin by Faith in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Sin is the ultimate problem in the world, and the only way to counterract that is through Jesus Christ.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 2/4/07 - 11:42:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think all of them play a part in the today's problems.

No, pride is helpful in the business world.

I'd agree with that. The 'deadly sins' aren't always actually bad, but they can be the cause of things when they go too far. And, since there are 7 which basically sum up all negative human emotions, they must be responsible for most problems created by humans.
Not in a religious sense, though, no.

I think that's covered by greed and gluttony.

And to answer the question: Yes, absolutely. Without those things this world would be a much better, calmer, happier place.

I think that greed(gluttony?), lust and anger are the worst of those sins.
12 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 4/24/07 - 2:45:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, all the sins seem to be just headings for lots of other sins which happen to fall into those categories. If sin is a bad thing, and every sin falls into the seven deadly ones SOMEWHERE, then all wars are bound to be started by it.
12 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 4/24/07 - 2:47:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
i think problems are too complicated to be reduced to just 7 factors

No, but it IS responsible for some of the world's problems--which, unless I totally misinterpreted something, is what this question is about.

So yeah, I'd say no. Depression's also a cause, and don't think pride and lust are always that bad, either. I mean, sexual desire is natural, and what exactly constitutes "unwholesome morality" or "unnatural sexual desire" is really vague and debatable. And pride? Yeah, egotism to the point of ignoring others' needs and wants is bad, but there's nothing wrong with simply being proud of your achievements.

11 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 7/24/07 - 4:17:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
well, all the world's problems just come down to greed and hate, i say. if nobody hated each other, and nobody was greedy, it would be paradise. and then people say 'what about depression, blah blah blah'. but people are only depressed because everyone hates each other. i mean, even if you're poor and depressed, it still comes down to greed and hate. everybody's really greedy, so that's why nobody's helping you.
11 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 10/6/07 - 6:59:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
All seven will be gone when we'd love our neighbor like we love ourselves.
11 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 10/6/07 - 7:49:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd say that the majority of the world's problems can be said to be related to the "seven deadly sins" but those are certainly not the ONLY causes of the world's problems.

Rape isn't about lust, it's about power.
