F*ck no.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 5:29:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
Why would I?
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 5:29:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, I can see two of those towers from a road near my house though. They're on some island like 45 minutes away, I think.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 5:30:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
Not a friggin chance...not that I'm against nuclear power in general, it's relatively clean and safe compared to many other power sources.

But seeing that my countries energy needs are more than met by hydroelectric and geothermal power, it would just be unbelievably stupid.

The towers in the picture are cooling towers--they are found at non-nuclear facilities as well...

I would love to see more nuclear power in the area...

Cheap, clean and efficient energy production?

Yes please. I'll even help build it!

14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 5:35:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
I wouldn't mind, in fact I'd encourage it.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 5:47:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
No I wouldn't.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 6:45:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
No way!
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 6:51:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
Heck yes! They're not risky and they provide cheap power. ^-^ I have one in my community.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 7:18:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
Nuclear power is one of those things people are proud to be ignorant about.

It's cheap, efficient and safe, but because it uses unpopular radioactive fuels, and had had some major incidents involving it's gross misuse, people are against it.

It's the same reason people still think that recycling is good for the environment, that whales are endangered and that mother Theresa was a good person.

It's simply another form of urban legend. People think they know something about it, because they've heard the publicly known stories, propaganda and either pseudoscience, or long-outdated proper science.

14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 7:35:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
The main reason I'm against it is the site they are planning on building the new one near me happens to be on a fault line.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 8:11:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
hell no, I'd tell them to build some wind farms (with the amount around here it would probably produce more energy anyway (jk))
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 9:13:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would. Not only is it productive, safe and clean...but it would create jobs.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 9:17:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
There is no way in hell. I want wind, solar, water, any other kind of renewable energy source before I'd ever consider a nuclear plant in my town.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 2/13/06 - 9:18:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
They can if they want.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 2/14/06 - 1:53:15 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes I would. Nuclear power is still the best alternative to fossil fuels.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 2/14/06 - 2:34:13 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't know that I'd support it, but I wouldn't protest it either. I realize that nuclear power is relatively safe and is cleaner than most other types of power plants, but I'd rather see wind farms in my area (which is VERY windy, so wind power would do quite well) than nuclear power plants.

Yikes. That definitely sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 2/14/06 - 2:36:58 AM EST (GMT-5)
Not IN my town, since there is no room, and houses, schools, and buisnesses would have to be bulldozed, but out of town" Maybe.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 2/14/06 - 2:56:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
I am going to have to say it to all the pro-nuclear brick heads. Look up geothermal power.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 2/14/06 - 3:02:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
I'm all for geothermal power... (I think I may even have mentioned it)

But nuclear is cool for places where geothermal or hydroelectric energy isn't available, or economically viable.

And while I like the idea of solar and wind power as complementary power systems, I don't think they are reliable enough

14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 2/14/06 - 3:03:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
to be a stand-alone system

There are few places in the United States where it is econmically viable.

So, I'm sticking with a Nuclear Power Plant.
