I have thought of how to rebel against the US so many times I would be arrested and killed via firing squad for treason if they could convict someone because of thoughts.

Lots of people do. But I didn't because I have common sense and realized it wasn't a good idea. Minority Report is a perfect movie to watch for this question though.
