No, because there's hardly any chance for a healthy relationship to develop anyway.

So can a falafel stand or a drunken poodle.
It's totally circumstantial and dependent on the couple.

There are exceptions, sure, but overwhelmingly, yes, that's what's likely. Sex is an integral part of a loving romantic relationship, but for long-term prospects, I think it's important to know each other considerably better first.

Maybe not. I definitely wouldn't ever have sex with a guy on the first date.

I answered according to the word "can", instead of the word "will".
Of course sex on the first date can ruin a relationship. I do find that sex gets better when you know the person you're doing it with.
Technically I had sex with my current bf on the first date, as we'd only spoken online for six months before we met.
We enjoyed seeing eachother "wink wink" and now we've been together for almost four years.

Hmmm... Now that I read Lijas's comment I prob should have answered yes instead of no.
I definately agree with what she's said. It doesn't always but sometimes yes. I had sex with Scott the first night we met, we've been together 5 and a half years now.
Other times though it can work in the sense that you or the other person only see each other as a person to have sex with and don't want to get involved with them.

It's not that sex on the first date will likely ruin a relationship that otherwise would succeed, it's that the possibility of a successful relationship isn't something someone can determine on the first date, and having sex with every person you could potentially date before you find a good mate is pretty fxcking risky.

It can but it doesn't have to.

No. Especially if you have no self respect for yourself and you're happy to settle down with a cockwhore.
Or they just become a fb type thing. But you don't actually date them.

Good point. I'll reiterate, considering how many first dates the average person ever goes on, the percentage of first dates that lead to a relationship is very low. Sex on the first date therefore has similar odds stacked against it.

I think it has the potential too. I think its not a smart idea with someone you just met. But I was in a seven month relationship after sex on a first date. And then I have been with my bf now over a year and we had sex before we started dating. So it doesnt always ruin it, but I think definitely you shouldnt do it if you never met the person before. Both those examples I used I knew them before hand as friends.

I have experienced sex on the first date, and I honestly do not believe so. If you know the person well, I think you could have a healthy relationship under those circumstances
(I have in the past)
