I don't think God ever approves of us killing others - we can fight for what we believe in without killing.
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Tuesday 10/28/03 - 4:35:58 AM EST (GMT-5)
I doubt it... not that I believe in god
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Tuesday 10/28/03 - 4:41:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
i guess it depends on what u define as a holy war. for example the palestinian 'holy war' is a rise agains opression and i hardly beleive God wants them to sit on their asses and get opressed
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Tuesday 10/28/03 - 4:44:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
but those people that believe in god, also believe that god guides them, so if they believe that then technically God must approve of holy wars
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Tuesday 10/28/03 - 7:24:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
don't try to understand God.
16 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Tuesday 10/28/03 - 7:28:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
mepoo, i think thats an unfair statement to make, none of the Palestinians said God guided them, they are opressed...
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 12/26/03 - 8:34:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
Isn't it all subjective as to whether or not you believe in god and WHAT god?
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 12/26/03 - 9:47:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Assuming there is a god and he is sane, definitely not.
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 12/27/03 - 8:02:59 AM EST (GMT-5)
Alright, so in the bible it says thou shalt not kill, correct? But, how many wars in the bible were guided by god? A lot, take for example the story of Joshua and Jericho. Almost everyone in that city was killed on the pretense that "god told them to do it". Someone, please tell me, how does that make sense? How can you believe in something that so blatantly contradicts itself?
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 12/27/03 - 8:39:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
Religion screws everythin up....
If there wasnt religion there wudnt b most of the trouble that we have
Like the Irish situation with the Catholics n protestants....i no its more complicated but basically its down to religion....
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 1/17/04 - 3:38:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
why is this screaming "jihad" to me? i beleive that god "approves" of a war if the war is in defense, and if the holy attackers were attacked first.

actually, in the bible, more specifically in the 10 commandments, the actual translation was "thou shall not MURDER", much different than kill. the OT is all about killing, god killed many people. seems like he really enjoyed it. (see below)
"If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst." (

that was Deuteronomy 13:7-12 ^^^
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 1/18/04 - 9:21:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
Probably. It must be pretty boring watching everyone if they don't fight sometimes.
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 1/28/04 - 12:09:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
I believe there are justified and justifiable wars which are approved by God. Holy War is an extreme title, and I would not like to apply it to any modern war. Some wars are just necessary and lead to a better outcome than others.

"you shouldn't kill your brother - except if he doesn't know what's right." - accept, "heaven is hell"

too many people believe some version or another of that.

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 1/28/04 - 12:18:27 PM EST (GMT-5)
"Look, I don't know, maybe I haven't made myself completely clear, so for the record, here it is again," said the Lord..."Somehow, people keep coming up with the idea that I want them to kill their neighbor. Well, I don't. And to be honest, I'm really getting sick and tired of it. Get it straight. Not only do I not want anybody to kill anyone, but I specifically commanded you not to, in really simple terms that anybody ought to be able to understand."

Worshipped by Christians, Jews, and Muslims alike, God said His name has been invoked countless times over the centuries as a reason to kill in what He called "an unending cycle of violence."

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 1/28/04 - 12:18:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
"I don't care how holy somebody claims to be," God said. "If a person tells you it's My will that they kill someone, they're wrong. Got it? I don't care what religion you are, or who you think your enemy is, here it is one more time: No killing, in My name or anyone else's, ever again."

The Onion???
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 1/28/04 - 2:15:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, there are some cases where it's OK.

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 1/28/04 - 2:16:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
God approves of defending yourselves against people who are trying to kill you in the name of their "holy war" (make that jihad)
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 1/28/04 - 2:24:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
What, Noldor, did you think God told me that over dinner and drinks?

Yes, it's from The Onion, and the logic there makes ten times more sense than the pathetic justifications for hateful, fundamentalist-oriented violence that I hear on an everyday basis from sorry excuses for people that have no concern for anything but their own selfish ego-stroking power grabs.

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 1/28/04 - 2:32:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
Quit being so pedantic. Your logic is callow at best, and lacking in depth at worst.

Who is making an ego-stroking power grab? What are you talking about?

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 1/28/04 - 2:39:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
I believe that declaring a war on another group of people simply because they hold different beliefs, and because one group is feeling so self-righteous that they are willing to take life, is egocentric. I also believe that fundamentalist violence often masks a grab for political power by a small group that are willing to sacrifice their own brothers in religion for personal gain.

This happens every day and should be obvious. Those are the people I'm condemning, because their actions are exploitative and accomplish little besides perpetuating more violence. If you want to defend yourself against violence, go ahead. But to instigate it and then claim God is on your side would be total bullsh|t.

Yeah, I hear Jesus was kicking Muslim ass all the time, you just never hear about it in the Bible.
