i like fractions the best.
1 yr ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 12/12/15 - 1:10:47 AM EST (GMT-5)
I kind of like transcendental numbers - - they can't be expressed exactly by a fraction, especially by a decimal fraction.
1 yr ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 12/12/15 - 8:08:55 AM EST (GMT-5)
I prefer decimals 9/10 of the time...

Fractions are our friends.
1 yr ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 12/14/15 - 7:03:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
Mostly decimals.
1 yr ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 12/21/15 - 10:00:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't see how you can "prefer" fractions or decimals.

Do you mean which one you would rather see put into a problem on a math test? In that case, decimals.
1 yr ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 12/21/15 - 11:50:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Decimals. Fractions are more accurate, but also uglier.

How are fractions more accurate? Is 0.5 any different than 1/2?
1 yr ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 12/22/15 - 12:13:28 AM EST (GMT-5)
Fractions are cleaner. Decimals are like, what?

But they can be expressed as limits of sequences of fractions. So there's that, at least.

With regard to the actual question, I'd go with fractions.

Reduced fractions with positive denominator are guaranteed unique. That's not the case with decimals in the classical formulation, unless you add one particular rule.

How are fractions uglier?! They are MUCH easier to work with during college exams w/o a calculator versus decimals. Simple, really.
1 yr ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 12/29/15 - 12:33:58 AM EST (GMT-5)
Fractions are less accurate, uglier and more difficult to work with.

Actually, fractions are more accurate, inasmuch as decimals are fractions, but limited to those whose denominator is an integral power of 10.

What I think he was getting at:

1/8 = 125/10^3 = 0.125

3/8 = 325/10^3 = 0.325

Notice that 10 and 8 are not coprime, either.

Decimals, they make much more sense to me.

Uh... I SAID they were cleaner. I just don't like the way they look.

3/8 is equal to 375 thousandths, not 325 thousandths.
