Tobacco pipes usually look the same. There are a lot of cool and unique looking salt and pepper shakers at antique shops. I bought my best friend Siamese cat shakers (she has a collection of Siamese cat items) at an antique shop in Michigan.

It depends on the collection, not what you're collecting.

Also, why are you collecting pipes? Are you going to smoke from them, or just display, estates or unsmoked? How much are you thinking you'll spend average per piece?

Tobacco pipes because then you get to smoke out of them and show off.

I think salt and pepper shaker collections are over done.
I'd do tobacco pipes, but specifically meershaum pipes. They are sculptures, not just pipes. I'd collect both used and new pipes. The old ones develop an awesome patina.
It could be taken even further by collecting only zodiac, or only famous people, cartoon, animal, or whatever catagory.

Salt and pepper shakers. There is a museum nearby. We haven't gone there yet.

I don't smoke, so pipes would look weird on me. That would be salt and pepper.

I think I'm the only person who doesn't get meershaums. I like the idea of a pipe collection under certain circumstances, but I like a more traditional style.
