No. My mother is though.
7 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 1/24/12 - 4:15:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
there are issues i feel stronger on than others. military and taxes i'd say are my two main issues, and everything else can pile into the back seat.

if a candidate supported building colonies on the moon or investigating extraterrestrial life or something i wouldn't honestly care either way.

Care to elaborate on your stance regarding military and taxes?
7 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 1/24/12 - 4:41:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, but I'd never vote for someone who claimed that the Earth was created in seven literal days 10,000 years ago. People who can't grasp junior high school biology do not belong in public office, nor do they deserve our respect.

If there were a candidate who pledged to look into the cruelty and abuse that takes place in mental hospitals though, they'd get my vote. But that's an issue that people will gladly ignore.
7 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 1/24/12 - 4:55:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
i believe no one should be subject to taxes beyond the basic needs of the community, the government should be responsible on how to manage their budget and not stick taxpayers with the bill on things the government can't afford. having more disposable income will the economy back on track, instead of having your tax dollars being caught up in red tape.

as for the military, we pulled out of iraq too early. the iraq police force is still suffering heavy losses. our role there should be logistical at best (obviously, i hate war as much as liberals do, but i understand the need for it).

So you WOULD be a single-issue voter, if it was YOUR issue.

But do you not agree that the very rich should have a larger tax burden than the poor?

As for Iraq, I'm sure you understand the situation much better than I do.

is this based on your own experience or do you honestly believe doctors in mental hospitals are abusing their patients on a regular basis?

plenty of rich people help others through charitable donations and their various foundations they have set up. some of them have already offered to pay higher taxes. i personally don't believe they should pay higher taxes, but what people do with their money is up to them.

As someone who works with the developmentally disabled, I'd hazard to guess that the low pay and lax hiring policies have a lot to do with this.

I've never actually SEEN anyone abused, but I can certainly see how easy it would be.

This brings up another issue: what do charities actually DO? I feel like a lot of donations are wasted on paying the salaries of those who work for them.

Also, can you really defend someone like Mitt Romney, who is super-rich and paying a lower tax rate than those who have much less? Taxing a multibillionaire a billion dollars is less devastating than taxing someone who makes $25,000 a year 25%.
7 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 1/24/12 - 5:57:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
how many multibillionaires are there in america compared to those who make less than $30,000 a year, and the unemployed?

the multibillionaires are responsible for job creation. tax them at insane rates and the incentive to create jobs vanishes. same with the random guy flipping your burger for minimum wage. if more of their paycheck goes to uncle sam, he'll have to try to find a better job. business owners won't hire if their income is going to uncle sam.
7 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 1/24/12 - 5:59:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
This is the same excuse business owners have used for years.

"You can't make child labor laws! It will destory business!"

"You can't set a minimum wage! It will destroy business!"

"You can't have overtime! It will destroy business!"

All of these things have been proven wrong, and the greedy will continue to be proven wrong.

if more and more of their income, that is.

if anything, the burden is on the government to balance their checkbooks first...we should pay the basics, such as roads, schools, infrastructure, police, firefighters, etc.

Yes, and how DO we pay for these things?

TAXES!!

And who should be paying the majority of those taxes: those who can afford it or those who really can't?
7 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 1/24/12 - 6:02:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
i believe we should have overtime. those who put in extra work should be rewarded. i think we've already solved the child labor issue at least in america.

minimum wage is something i'm still on the fence about. can one live reasonably on $8 an hour? i know it's impossible here in california, at least.
7 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 1/24/12 - 6:09:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
the reason i'm against raising taxes is because our government has proven over and over again that they don't know what to do with what we give them every year. trying to vote in honest politicians, whether they have a D or an R next to their name, is the ideal. heck, barbara boxer and dianne feinstein, how many years has california given them the reins, and where are we because of it?
7 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 1/25/12 - 12:56:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
We spend more on military than every other country combined including Russia AND China! I think we can cut back a few billion dollars to fund healthcare and education, what do you think?

agreed and how about cutting back on millitary spending, come on we spend more than all the countries combined on it.

we could pay back our depts with the money
