Most of the time, no. If it's a casual "oh, this is the first time we met and it didn't pan out" kinda thing usually it will. If, however, you're consistantly in conflict with a person, this advice doesn't work because if you could, you would.

If you're serious about it, it can work out. If you aren't really ignoring them, but instead being passive-aggressive, trying to get your digs in before running away and hiding, no.

It depends on what the person bothering you is trying to accomplish - if they want to get to you and you act as though you're completely fine with what they're doing, which might take the form of ignoring them, then it will probably work.

I used to hate how teachers in elementary school would just say to ignore classmates who tease and torment you.
It's lazy on their part.

I don't think I've ever had to use the tactic as an adult, but it definitely worked for me when I was a kid. Dad always told me to ignore my brother when he was teasing me and not to give him the satisfaction of a reaction. He gave up trying to piss me off after I wouldn't even make eye contact when he was trying to get a rise out of me. The minute he started the taunts I acted like he wasn't standing in the room.

Not if they're crazy enough.
I've known quite a handful of people who *still* insist upon sending text/instant messages on my phone regardless of whether I respond or not. There have been times when I came back from class to 10-15 consecutive text messages about nothing. |

Same. Never tried it as an adult, but when I was younger, I tried it and was really surprised at how well it worked, when some next door neighbors of my friend were teasing us.

I find it easy to ignore some idiot who's looking for a reaction on the Internet but it could be very different if they sit next to you in class or something. Probably depends on the case.

you may need to use the tactic immediately to get people to lose interest immediately - if someone's been attacking you for a year and they're used to you getting all worked up it may take a similar time to break the habit
