Has some of the print worn off the ``N`` key on your keyboard?
I`ve had a lot of computers, and the print on the ``N`` key always seems to be the first to go. Why is that? One would expect it to be the ``E``, which is the most used letter in almost all western languages.

It must be the way the index finger slides across it for use or something. I'm guessing the 'e' is in a better position for your left middle finger to just lift up and press down. I bet there's been a million dollar study at some university done on it.

Yeah, I think "N" is probably the most used key on the lower level of the board, so we swipe across it for more often than any other key. Probably more likely to hit the actual print itself if it's higher up the key. Finger doesn't have to reach so far or whatever.

Well, I just said all that. Ugh.

But you wouldn't have any old computer stowed away in a closet so you could check? I'm really interested in this (I need to get a life)

I just had a look at my Amiga, and while the print on many keys there had started to wear off, the 'N' was almost invisible.

Huh, that's interesting. I don't have any old keyboards lying around to see though. All the ones in my house are fairly new.

Half the N and D on mine are gone. The W, C and X are gone completely.

The W, D and C are probably gaming related, as they tend to be ones you hold down (often being walk forward, strafe/turn and crouch). Tis a cheapo keyboard though.

The 'N' phenomenon seems to appear even on high-end machines. But the keyboard of my old Commodore-64 is still in mint condition, even the N.

My 'Enter' key seems to be the only one with the writing worn off. The 'N' seems to be fully intact.

And for the record, our keys are intact, except for half the N, and a smidgen of the M.

On an old keyboard I used for 6 years, the E was nearly gone.

All my keys are there

If you have a N in your name it could be because of that. Otherwise I have no idea

On my old keyboard the T, N, A ,and E are all faded. I have no idea what order they faded in though.

Do you say the words 'neat' 'nate' 'ten' 'tan' and 'net' a lot?
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 8/27/11 - 6:18:08 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, but the only key that's wearing away is the M key, and it kinda looks like an N now.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 8/27/11 - 8:04:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
L and N are looking most sad this keyboard, I can't tell if it's dirt obscuring them or if they've genuinely worn off.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 8/27/11 - 8:21:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
Sounds like censorship to me. The N-key is pretty taboo, you know.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 8/27/11 - 3:51:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
It was on my old keyboard.

8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 8/28/11 - 12:30:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
Nah. I've only been using this keyboard since December.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 8/28/11 - 12:35:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
Well, Control + N open new pages, create new documents... so maybe...
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 8/28/11 - 4:11:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
Weird! It is faded more than any of the other letters.
