I think it's possible to hold some libertarian beliefs and some beliefs that could be regarded as socialist to the Noldorkian sorts.

Are libertarianism and socialism mutually exclusive?
If you take the platform of the U.S. Libertarian party, the answer would be a strong yes. But if you look at the term "libertarian" as used more internationally, it's up for debate.

I think it's possible to hold some libertarian beliefs and some beliefs that could be regarded as socialist to the Noldorkian sorts.

at first glance, i'd say yes.

My notions of libertarianism are very limited, and only coming from the US perspective.

I always think of Libertarianism as maximum individual, minimum state- like Somalia.

Libertarian is minimum government, with the acceptance that government is necessary within limited scope; Somalia is just anarchy. It's still pretty far from socialism.

a pure libertarian state might be the ideal, but people are different so you'll never reach that. socialism seems like a good idea on paper, but governments that endorsed socialism, we all know what happened to them.

they can be mutually exclusive, but in most countries they seem to meet up somewhere.
