Yeah... would really save on so much confusion when you're in a new part of town, or trying to give somebody directions.

Yes, and numbered highways shouldn't jump between different roads.

Yes, it would be less confusing.

Usually it's rare enough to he no big deal.

I find it interesting, though, to be able to see remnants of once distinct neighborhoods.

How about the road that connects Paris, France with Madras, India? How would you get the countries it passes through to agree on a name?

Trust me, it happens more than you might think - I'm a cab driver and it drives me crazy.

Good question. Atleast Broadway(here in NYC) doesn't change. I know what you mean though. Roads of such nature are what made me glad that GPS was invented. Drives me insane.

god yes!
here is terrible for that....
one side of the lights is one name, cross to the other side of the lights and you're on a different named street

so stupid

I can understand it in some instances - for example, passing through multiple cities, I don't expect a road to maintain the same name in both. And *maybe* in the case where a road branches into two one-ways can I understand that the name should not continue. My city is pretty bad about it, though; some roads change name simply at the one or two block portion where they cut through campus, for example.

No

don't they?
I didn't notice

Yes! I hate it when you no longer know where you are because a road has renamed itself.

there are about 14 or 16 major roads that turn into something else in my city

it's really no big deal
5 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 10/3/12 - 6:25:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, simply because it's the same road.
5 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 10/3/12 - 11:52:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
Ideally the name would be the same, but not all roads that appear to be one straight road started out that way. A lot of them might have originally been separate roads w/ separate names that were later connected. Changing the name so that it is all uniform would mean residents have to get their licenses, checks, business cards, billing addresses, vehicle registration, and countless other forms changed to reflect the new street name. Something tells me no one else is stepping up to fit the bill for that.

Doesn't really bother me.
I know the name changes in my area and when I'm traveling to unfamiliar places, studying maps and directions is usually sufficient to note the name changes.

If you don't mind 6 digit house numbers ...
5 yrs ago - Saturday 10/27/12 - 5:07:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah, since finding roads is already a big enough pain in the ass.

People seem okay with phone numbers.

I would like that, because here in Colorado Springs, not only do the roads change names, but they also cut off and then continue on a few blocks later, with something like a school, shopping center, or a golf course in between. Also, the roads are notoriously curvy. We have one section of town where some of the roads are straight for a ways, and that is downtown proper.

No.

We need to keep it confusing for when the Russians invade.
