So the criminals will know which houses are safest to go after?
8 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 3/18/11 - 3:39:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
well considering there's a law that says you're banned from owning guns for five years if you have a 5150, insinuating a temporary ban, i think we should publicly release their identities. who knows if their insanity should rise up again and they end up killing someone? i'd prefer they'd be banned from owning firearms for life, which is the 5250 ban, but that's what the law says right now.
8 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 3/18/11 - 3:40:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
and as an owner of eight firearms, i think this would violate privacy rights. and violent criminals would target people who don't have guns and can't defend themselves on equal footing.

you have no respect for people's privacy, do you inq-tard?

8 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Friday 3/18/11 - 9:33:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
The list of gun owners should be everybody, and it should be public knowledge that everybody is armed.
8 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 3/21/11 - 12:46:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, so I know not to live near them.

i'm merely stating what the law states and what i think should be done. what's your solution? no guns for anyone? how do we respond if criminals invade our homes if we're unable to defend ourselves?

there are people that are illegally in possession of firearms, so i don't think that will fly.

we register our gun ownership already, shouldn't that be enough?
8 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 3/21/11 - 9:14:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
You said that people who have had 5150s should be publicly exposed.

that has nothing to do with guns, just with your lack of respect of others privacy.

there's a reason that people get 5150s. it's because they're considered a danger to themselves and others. do you want those kind of people to possess firearms? that's why it should be public, so at least people will know who not to give guns to, saving time on the background checks.

No, it's because you have no respect for anyone's privacy.

You are the mentally sick one, not them.

A danger that was presumably deemed temporary if they are allowed to purchase guns after five years. If they are fit to have a gun, they have the same right to privacy as you, especially since a special list of names would violate both privacy with respect to guns and medical privacy.

if i'm the mentally sick one, why haven't i been placed in a padded cell yet? i just listed a law as an example of what would be justifiable to warrant this kind of thing. keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally unstable and violent criminals should be a priority, not adding more gun control laws.

forcing all gun owners to be listed publicly is a bigger violation of privacy laws anyway, and would lead to more violence with guns because violent criminals and gangs would know where to illegally acquire firearms, since felons cannot purchase guns. federal law already dictates that we need to register handguns and get licenses to carry concealed weapons. i think that's sufficient enough.

if you have such a comprehensive knowledge of gun laws other than "guns are bad," feel free to counter with your own argument.

a court decides whether they're allowed to have guns or not. most people who get 5150ed have a diagnosed mental condition already, so it's most likely that they won't get cleared by a psychiatrist or judge to possess a firearm. but better safe than sorry.
8 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 3/22/11 - 12:38:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't want gun owners listed. I just take offense to your blatant disregard for others privacy.

there's no such thing as privacy anymore. we want that right, but we must give up certain privacy rights for the good of the community. i thought you, of all people, would understand that.

Hmm, good to see Inquizitor is keeping unreasonable fear of the mentally ill alive and well.

gun laws are now anti-semitic?
8 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 3/22/11 - 1:31:19 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, but listing the names of the "mentally ill" publicly is fascist.

I wish you could live in Nazi Germany to see your dream... maybe you'd change your tune.
