What year is your Ranger? I have a '96. It's a secondary car now - - our "farm" vehicle. I didn't even know until last year they'd discontinued them.
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 1:40:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
2000 with a 3.0 v-6 and manual transmission. Regular cab.
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 2:48:27 PM EST (GMT-5)
Mine's a manual, too, and reg cab. I'm pretty sure mine is a V-4, though. It's a good little truck for hauling a couple yards of mulch.
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 2:52:27 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's probably an inline 4, 2.3 liter. Ford had a v-4 in Europe but I don't think it made it to the states.
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 3:11:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, shoot, now I'm part embarrassed and part curious about exactly what type of engine my Ranger has. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

I have not driven it, or any other Ford, in a couple weeks.
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 4:21:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
I had to drive my boss's F550 to move an excavator for him awhile back.

I owned a Ford once. ONCE.
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 4:25:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, I don't own one and in the rentals I've had lately none have been Ford.

Interesting though that the topic brought up folks talking about their Rangers. We need to own something with ground clearance and 4wd if possible, but we only need it for about 6 weeks this spring. I've been looking at used Rangers thinking I could resell it afterwards, but I think I'd lose too much and may end up long term renting.
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 4:31:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
Trucks retain their resale value pretty well. Other than convenience, I could see you spending less out of pocket overall if you bought.

Rangers don't have great clearance relative to a lot of other trucks, and I don't know about 4wd options. Depending on what you need it for, you might get away w/ a trailer on a Jeep.
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 5:08:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
I just need something with better clearance than my MINI (not made for a 5 mile dirt road). A regular sedan would work, but a truck is attractive to me because we will be moving a bunch of stuff and truck beds are handy that way.

I know trucks hold their value well. But at the end I won't have a lot of time to wait around to sell it, so I'll have to take what I can get at a dealer (usually not a great deal). Renting is at least predictable. we still haven't decided.

How do you guys like your Rangers?
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 6:19:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've had it for 9 or 10 years and I'm in no hurry to trade it in.

I only get 21mpg so if gas mileage is why you're wanting a Ranger. ....

I think a full size would fit your needs better because you will have a greater number of buyers.

Bargain hard enough when you buy it and mark it up when you sell it. After dickering you should break even with an F-150
2 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/2/15 - 7:30:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've had mine for 16+ years now, though it hasn't been driven daily in 9 or 10. It has around 108K miles on it and is going strong.

If timing is important, renting or getting a hitch and trailer makes sense.

i don't understand this.

this could imply so much.

are you saying that the nature of my posts are truly inane and therefore the notion that i would suggest that someone else was having a streak of inanity is truly ridiculous to the point that you make a comment so obviously condescending?

i may be inane but i don't believe i'm arbitrary. maybe i'm not an open door welcoming all inside so long as they provide a simple explanation of their feelings regarding something entirely meaningless like a well behaved member of an entirely foolish community that enjoys the concept of illogical association, declaring it spontaneous, when it's really just notionless.

i drove a ford edge two or three months ago.

I will more than likely never own a Ford. Foreign cars are way better.

lil' bit
maybe not "truly" inane, just not quite amazing enough to justify telling thisone1 to stfu.
