No. I don't care at all about the War of 1812.

Which war?

A side issue among the Napoleonic wars. The US got the bright idea of annexing Canada, and failed.

Nope
11 months ago - Friday 6/22/12 - 3:33:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
It was a long time ago, I don't actually care.
11 months ago - Friday 6/22/12 - 9:16:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
Nothing to do with me.
11 months ago - Friday 6/22/12 - 11:47:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
How would one celebrate it?
11 months ago - Friday 6/22/12 - 11:49:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
i could make war of 1812 cupcakes.
11 months ago - Friday 6/22/12 - 11:51:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
You'd need an orchestra playing the 1812 Overture with live cannons, for starters. It's not a party without some Tchaikovsky.

This celebration sounds relatively boring, and too organized. How about a BBQ and random cannon fire.

I could try and find a Canadian and throw my Tchaikovsky records at him, I guess.

Now we're talking!

I live in a GL state, so yes.

Cannon.

The plural of cannon is cannon.

Other than that, splendid idea.

The war of 1812 was two hundred years ago. Isn't it about time we give it up? Especially since it played such a tiny part in American history.

I get the'tiny part in American history' thing but unless you're suggesting to forget aboiut your war of independece too I don't see what the '200 years ago' thing is about. Even your civil war was almost 150 years ago ...

1812 Overture Finale with Naval Gunfire (This one is pretty spectacular.)

Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture (Full with Cannons)

Cannon. Cannon. Cannon!

FFS!

Inflections for plurals are all the rages nowadays!

@Matthias - What I meant was that the war of 1812 was a long time ago and not significant enough for us to celebrate for 200 years. Wars like our revolutionary war and civil war are much bigger and more important wars and should be remembered forever.

There are a lot of events planned that one can attend...

The Canadians appear to be more enthusiastic about the bicentennial than those in the US...

Since it's the source of our national anthem, I'm not ready to give it up quite yet.
