Umm... i somehow dont think that that would work?
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 2/24/02 - 8:49:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
because February was the shortest.

CzarNicky is dead on. Feb. is the shortest month and is the best choice. Now moving right along, "ALEX, I'll take useless information for $300" ©¿©¬

still doesn't answer the question..... it can't be as simple as February is the shortest month... there has to be a reason.... (yes I am the type of person that does things the hard way)

I'm pretty sure it's for the sole reason that it's the shortest month. I'd rather have another second on everyday (I think, it's easier to remember). I figured out how much time we'd need to add on everyday when I was in gr.6. And with the extra day, it's off by a couple seconds

it doesn't matter what the month is as far as having an extra warm day. Summer won't be any longer if we decide to add another month between July and August. as for why its in Feb. Don't care

people who live in Australia get Feb. in the summer.

A couple of seconds a day ? That's gotta be the most silly suggestion I ever heard. Assuming you go to work at 8 o'clock in the morning everyday, after about 2 years, this would be on the time we now call 8 p.m. The reason a day is exactly a day, is because that way we at least always have the ligt bit of the day in roughly the same couple of hours.

I am with Zar on this one.

I dont care if Feb is the shortest, it is the most dreary month. That extra day would be so much nicer in June.
17 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/14/02 - 12:07:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
It makes it closer to even. Nice and patterned

You have to add a solid day every 4 years, otherwise after a few years times would become completely out of sync with lighting conditions. It's the same reason why we have time zones - people like to associate noon as the middle of the day and midnight as the middle of the night. Yeah, we probably should all just use GMT, but too many stupid people would be confused by that. Not to be rude, but if most of you had BETTER be being sarcastic about adding a day in the summer vs. winter. You *DO* know that summer would still be the same length of time regardless of what day you add that extra month to, right? If the weather becomes nice on march 20th and becomes cold on september 1st, and then we add a day in june, the only thing that's going to change is that the weather will become cold on august 31st... you wouldn't 'gain' a day of warm weather - you'd just gain an extra day in a month. january should be the short month, though, not february.

OK, so we've established *why* it's in February....but why is February the shortest month?
17 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 10/8/02 - 12:23:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
wait no one has established why feb is a short month and does any one know that eventually we would have to ad a month then later a year to compensate for somesones negligance when this time concept was implemented on this planet?
17 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 11/4/02 - 11:33:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
yeah, the weather and stuff doesn't care what we humans think is summer
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 11/29/02 - 1:34:55 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't mind having it in February - it's summer for me. :D
