We are doing this. He is taking my name because I feel a strong connection with my family of origin, and we want to have the same last name. I'm not sure why doing so is such an uncommon choice.

That would be kind of cool, I'm the last person in my family line, and me being a female prevents the family name from being passed on... (not that that is a horrible thing the last 2 ppl in my line were drunks)
