eh who cares?
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:44:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
They already do. If a pregnant woman is killed by a drunk driver, the drunk driver is charged with two murders. Fetuses are, indeed, unborn children and should be classified as such.

What's the difference? Either way, it's not alive.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:45:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
Sure it is.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:46:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's alive when it's born.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:47:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's alive at conception.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:54:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
pishma's right. they are alive...but i believe that everything in our bodies are alive.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:54:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
Rufio, there's no doubt that it's ALIVE. The question is if a fetus is a human that deserves human rights. Clearly, a fetus is alive.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:57:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
the only thing i'm really against are partial birth abortions and third trimester abortions. i think that as long as you've come that far into the pregnancy, you might as well give birth and give the unwanted child up for adoption. this is a very touchy issue though.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:57:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
Correction, either way it is alive.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:58:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
It may be alive in a very technical sense, the way an organ is alive. But it is not a separate entity, and it cannot survive on its own. It is not a human being anymore than your liver is a human being.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 5:59:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
A one year old cannot survive on its own. Is it not human?
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:02:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
A fetus, if taken from its womb, cannot survive period. A baby can survive separately from its mother, albeit with help. It doesn't need to feed directly off of a human being all the time, as a fetus does.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:03:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
You're saying that if I left a one year old in its crib, it could survive on its own? Perhaps scavenge for food after it learns to crawl?
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:05:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, besides the fact that it DOES have an overruling survival instinct, no, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that it doesn't have to actually be a part of the mother to survive, and doesn't have to be a parasite.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:06:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, it all depends on how you define a fetus. Babies who have only been in the womb for 4 months have survived to become healthy people but, yes, they did have to be on life support for a while and it took some medical technology. Do you stop calling it a fetus after 3 months and change to calling it an unborn baby at that point? I think that's a reasonable way to classify.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:08:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
So born babies want to survive, but unborn babies would not fight to survive and, therefore, do not have the right. If a fetus requires nursing and care from its mother, what is exactly does a one year old require that's any different?
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:09:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
So, buddy, 4-month old fetuses that existed before there was medical technology necessary for them to survive were still fetuses, right? I don't think it should be based on whether or not medical technology can help the fetus live. Medical technology these days could probably inspire life into a rock.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:09:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
Sooner or later, they will be able to take a fetus out very early and through medical technology nurse it along to becoming a healthy baby. When we have that technology to take the fetus out from almost the date of conception and have it survive, the issue will change somewhat.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:12:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
A fetus is a parasite. It feeds like a parasite, and survives like a parasite. A born baby may need the mother's natural help to survive, but not as a parasite. It has its own fully-formed body, its own mind, and its own free will.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:12:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, you can't discount technology. Think about all the mothers and babies that would have died if not for caesarian insection.
18 yrs ago - Thursday 2/7/02 - 6:13:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah, we can make test tube babies, too, buddy. They're still not alive until they're completely formed.
