No. I used to be more curious to find out than I am now, probably as much out of some form of vanity or egotism as anything else.

It isn't that I doubt the validity of the tests, generally speaking. I think general intelligence is probably one the most robust and meaningful constructs that the social sciences have produced/discovered (I don't mean that in a back-handed way), and that IQ tests are reasonable assessments of it in most circumstances.

I find the perceived imperative of it odd (particularly amongst people who are probably average or above average anyway); that higher levels of intelligence are valued irrespective of context. I'm in a line of work which is fairly challenging, and there is stuff which takes me a while to get my head around. There may well be people who are less intelligent than me but whose limits are never tested. As far as intelligence being functional, I'm not sure I'm better off than them. You need to be intelligent enough to do what you want to do, that's about it. A concern for it beyond that seems to me like worrying about how attractive you are to people when you're already in a relationship with someone who you know finds you attractive.

Stop making so much sense FD.

You take all the fun out of it.

I only know what my IQ was when I was young (14-25) because I was, for various reasons, tested extensively. It actually wasn't until I was older that I realized what my IQ even meant (I mean, I knew it was a measure of intelligence, but my ideas on what intelligence was ... and really still is... forming).

I really don't want to know because I worry about the psychological reaction I might have if I received an average or below average score.

It's better...for me...to just leave it unknown.

Not that I assume I'm above average (I might be completely average) but I like the possibility being open.

i took some test when i was 18 and measured in at 120, which probably isn't super awesome but not dumb, either.

i had relatives claim they were in the genius range, and i don't doubt them considering they hold doctorates from universities such as oxford, sorbonne and the polytechnic university of milan, where my dad studied engineering.

I did an online test when I was a teenager which put me at around 130, I think. I have no idea how accurate it was and now I don't care enough to find a good test.

Like FD I wonder about the Emphasis on IQ. I wonder how people smart enough to join MENSA would be dumb enough to want to pay money to do so.

I love this gem of genius from Ani D

when i was four years old
they tried to test my i.q.
they showed me a picture
of 3 oranges and a pear
they said,
which one is different?
it does not belong
they taught me different is wrong

"Different is wrong" isn't something that has to be taught. Just watch any group of animals. Struggling against it is part of the human condition.

I find those lyrics about as deep as such causes as Jam Against Genocide. My guess is, Ani D probably failed that test...

literal people are scary, man
literal people scare me
out there trying to rid the world
of its poetry
while getting it wrong fundamentally
down at the church of "look,
it sez right here, see!"

So, she's written a canned response to her poor lyrical ability and shallowness. How quaint.

Clearly, finding her lacking, means I should be painted as not understanding the spirit and use of poetry.
5 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Tuesday 6/17/14 - 12:49:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
Clearly you don't apply the spirit and use of poetry whether you understand it or not. After all you ARE a fundamentalist, it's your defining characteristic. You define things fundamentally in what ever way suits your purpose to the exclusion of anything else. You think that's how you are supposed to support your own point of view in the great contest of life of your own creation, but generally in society, that's the signature move of a crashing bore.

Maybe you come on YT for analysis by others. I don't. You have no idea what my defining characteristics are, who I am or what I think. You've gotten it wrong an amazing number of times, I correct you, others have corrected you, and yet you persist. I'd say THAT is the defining characteristic of a bore: one who does not learn and persists in the same viewpoint no matter how many times they are corrected.

And please, before you go on about how long you've been analyzing my posts so you should know what I am, just recall that until earlier this year, you always confused me with 6 or 7 other YTers, and now you still do so often.
