I think the stance I took on the Taco Bell thing or whatever it was was that I don't care what other people do with their own money.

It is next to impossible to avoid patronizing any and all business that contribute to causes one disagrees with (regardless of viewpoint). However, If I know that a food chain actively supports something I strongly disagree with, or opposes something I support, I will tend not to patronize them.

It depends on their level of involvement for the cause. If they kick in a bit of cash for a campaign donation, I doubt that I'd even take note of it.

If the business starts to resemble campaign headquarters or a rally place for activists, then I'd avoid giving them my business.

I'd also avoid them if they make statements along the lines of "a portion of our profits are donated to 'the political cause'".
