8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 1/9/12 - 7:55:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
All blood donation places I know of won't allow me to donate blood because I'm too skinny or small. A lot of them say you have to be a certain weight to donate and I'm under it. So, I've never been able to donate.
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 1/9/12 - 8:36:30 AM EST (GMT-5)
I said no, but I've never tried to give blood and I'm probably under the weight requirements.

How is his military history relevant at all to the question?
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 1/9/12 - 5:30:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, because I'm queer
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 1/9/12 - 5:49:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
No

I haven't donated in way too long
But when I used to regularly I'd have to tell them before the questionaire that yes I had been out of the country, but it wasn't to anywhere that could've risked my blood being effected by anything
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 1/9/12 - 10:30:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't know that it was banned, I tried to donate for some surgery for my mom, but I had a slight temperature so I couldn't.
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 1/9/12 - 10:32:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
I couldn't donate for a while after I had cancer, but it's been ten years since the surgery (no chemo or radiation), so now they let me donate.
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 1/9/12 - 10:33:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
If I were male, maybe.
I am female, so I have not yet been banned from giving blood.
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 1/10/12 - 1:54:02 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes I have because I am a gay male who has had sex with another gay male on or since 1970something.
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 1/10/12 - 6:48:56 AM EST (GMT-5)
I have been rejected two times due to high blood pressure.
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 1/10/12 - 7:20:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
My blood is saturated with various prescription drugs. No way of telling how that would affect the person receiving it.

Maybe he was stationed somewhere like the UK.
I guess that person just left out that important detail.
So, it seems all unconnected but...I can guess what the connection probably is....and that's my guess.
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 1/12/12 - 6:40:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
I can't donate blood because I have a low iron level but I've never been banned.
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 1/12/12 - 6:55:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
But she worded it as though she meant "my husband is such an upstanding citizen! Hes been in the military for FOURTEEN YEARS OMG! What are they thinking refusing his blood?! Anyone should be HONORED to receive his blood!"
8 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 1/14/12 - 4:08:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, because my haemoglobin was too low (103 instead of at least 110).

If you haven't been in a while here, they'll call too...so I told them I couldn't while I was pregnant, so I didn't have to get any calls.
8 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Sunday 1/15/12 - 11:06:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
I only tried to donate one time, and they told me I was too skinny. My weight has fluctuated since then and now I'm probably too skinny again. But even if I weren't, I don't think I would donate because I heard the needle is huge and people often pass out.

nah, my father had the same deal, and being in the military and getting stationed somewhere in europe is actually one of the most common reasons that someone can't give blood
so someone familiar with it wouldn't read it that way
8 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Sunday 1/15/12 - 11:42:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've never attempted to give blood because I knew I didn't meet their weight requirement.
8 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Sunday 1/15/12 - 11:47:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
I have given blood loads of times. I haven't been banned permanently, but once they wouldn't let me donate because my temperature was too low.

I've donated. The needle isn't that big, and I've never seen anyone pass out, although I've heard of it happening.
8 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Monday 1/16/12 - 1:18:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
I donated recently. I'm A positive.
8 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Tuesday 1/17/12 - 12:58:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
No. But I refuse to give blood as long as they will discriminate against homosexuals.

I didn't get that from what she said at all! I can see why it's connected.

No, I've never been refused. The first time I gave blood was on campus and the it was organised by medical students. My friends and I queued for about 4 hours and I was so afraid that when I was getting interviewed that they'd be like "Nope, sorry. Out you go!" There's so many reasons that can make you not eligible!
