No. I don't think your credit score has much to do with how well you can perform a job.

only if they also give me the title of serf

No, f*ck that. The hiring process is invasive enough, what with personality/psychology tests, drug tests, etc.

It's f*cked up that you have to expose so much personal information just to get a job. We all need them to survive- it's not like a special reward you get for being wealthy and having a great personality.
I don't know if I'm explaining this how I want to....
But to me, working is equivalent to any human need, like shelter, food, water. It angers me that people are put through hoops to obtain this basic form of life support.

Hell no. Unless you're running the financials of a business but even then it's not needed.
9 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 1/18/12 - 12:58:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
Absolutely. If you're poor with your money, you're probably poo at responsibility in general.
9 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 1/18/12 - 1:39:37 AM EST (GMT-5)
Depends on the job, and the particular qualifications they are looking for. There's a lot more information in a credit check than just a credit score. Answers to questions like "Are you being sued?" for example.

9 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 1/18/12 - 5:15:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
None of their business if I'm being sued.
Am I not allowed to toil for my daily bread and a roof over my head because some f*ck is taking me to court?
9 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Wednesday 1/18/12 - 5:26:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
Once again, a job is not a playful amusement we take on to cure the dullness of our days. I hate the way it's set up-like it's a special privilege that we are competing for.

"Only the wealthiest, healthiest, cheerful people are allowed to be bossed around all day at OUR facilities!" Tee hee.

It's a necessary thing that we have to do or else we are going to be homeless and probably die of starvation or exposure. Damn, this subject makes me mad.

No.

That's just another way to kick someone who's already down.

Obviously, if they're in a bad financial situation, they need the work.

No because I don't think that it is a true indicator of someone's trustworthiness. There are people who may have bad credit because they have medical bills they could not pay. They probably want to pay them but simply could not. And there may be someone who has excellent credit but not a trustworthy person for reasons other than financial.

I agree with Mispelled. Tired of companies thinking that they are "treating" people to a job. It is getting worse in this economy.
4 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 12/17/16 - 9:36:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, because maybe you need that job so you can repair your credit.
4 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Monday 12/26/16 - 3:08:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
it's mandatory if you want to work for a financial institution. otherwise, no.
4 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Monday 12/26/16 - 7:08:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
It depends on the job.
4 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 12/27/16 - 7:32:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
It saddens me that so many of you do not think that living within your means and paying your bills on time says anything about your character.

I'm not saying there aren't factors beyond a person's control that might create a bad credit history. But then neither is anyone saying that there is some kind of zero tolerance policy against hiring people with poor credit.
4 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 12/27/16 - 1:14:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
maybe if you work in finance (my younger brother has to do this for his line of work), but for other jobs, i don't see the need.

i wouldn't put someone with a poor credit score in charge of a billion dollar hedge fund, for instance.

My credit score is great. Still not my boss's business.
4 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 12/28/16 - 7:41:32 AM EST (GMT-5)
Nah. Too invasive.

My work place has a criminal record check, which I think is fine as a testament to character, because a lot of positions in my company involve handling cash or goods, and that's more than enough. (in point of fact, we do employ people with records, but not people who lie about having records.)

A healthy credit score makes no odds. I have kids in my dept who go out for huge nights on the lash at payday and are living on their overdrafts, eating beans on toast at the end of the month.

It's no business of mine or my company's if that's how they choose to handle their money.

so does sexual orientation, religious beliefs and political affiliations. Still none of your employer's business.
4 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 12/29/16 - 12:45:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
Actually, no Abz. None of the things you mention say very much at all about your character.

I still don't see why its none of their business. Whether you feel obligated to live up to social constraints like paying your bills says a lot about what to expect from you as an employee. And I would imagine that being under financial stress you could be easily manipulated with money making you a security risk. Even if you are just a nameless cubicle dweller at some firm and never handle money or other valuables, if your password can be easily bought, you're providing a easy hack for a competitor.

As convincing an argument as I've ever heard from you.

Not an argument. A statement of fact.

Try a dictionary out sometime.

Try making sense.
