I think of the average fatty I see walking down the street.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 2/16/10 - 10:01:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think of a lot of people that I've seen or known.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 2/16/10 - 10:26:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
Morbid obesity. I think it is because in my opinion the word obese is used to lightly, and even the person in the first picture I wouldn't call obese but fat.

I think of AWPlard

She's actually obese. But I'm betting we all think a bit like that.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 2/16/10 - 10:45:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think about actual obese people, because I know what it looks like.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 2/17/10 - 1:45:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
Probably morbidly obese - the first picture, I'd call her chubby, not obese.

She actually is obese, like I said earlier.

the window of overweight people is really narrow, from 25% to 29% body fat.

Yes, technically she is obese. But I think most people would look at her and just see her as overweight/fat/chubby - not obese.

I work in a hospital setting and most of the patients are more of the mildly obese category- so I guess I think of them.

oh, I agree with you on that.
That's why I asked this question, how different is perception from facts.

I'm sure since I'm morbidly obese, my opinion will seem very skewed, but I agree that the term obesity is alotted to too many people.

I went to school with a girl who was the picture of health. She was fairly muscular due to sports, and weighing 180 at 5'5, she would've been considered obese. But if you saw her, you wouldn't think so.

How is that even possible? My close friend is 5' 5" and extremely muscular and still only weights 140. An extra 40 pounds of muscle would be ridiculous looking. I can't imagine where that extra 40 pounds would come from on a girl if not from fat.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 2/19/10 - 1:32:56 AM EST (GMT-5)
^^ I think it's funny, I used to be approximately 140 at that same height (don't know my weight now) and I have barely any muscle (and less fat, tbh). I assume your friend is a female though?

to answer the question...I guess I don't really know what's what in terms of labels of such things...I think I have a pretty good idea of what's healthy and what's not, but that's about it.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 2/19/10 - 2:02:20 AM EST (GMT-5)
I guess I think of the one on the left, since what comes to mind is just someone with a hanging belly, or a a couple fat rolls around the middle.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 2/19/10 - 8:44:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
pan, I was going to post her picture for reference, but decided against it since I have no permission from her.

A good example would be Brooke Hogan.

Just imagine her with red hair and freckles, and you have my friend.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 2/19/10 - 8:46:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
Ewww, a muscular ginger!?!?

OMG CARROT TOP
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 2/19/10 - 8:50:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
Bwahaha!

Her hair wasn't ORANGE. It was about Lindsay Lohan's original color.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 2/19/10 - 8:51:55 AM EST (GMT-5)
Was she using steroids? You know that'll make her balls shrink.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 2/19/10 - 9:30:19 AM EST (GMT-5)
Oooooooh. Maybe.

Tbh, that last post makes me want to hit mysocks.
7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Saturday 2/20/10 - 1:29:37 AM EST (GMT-5)
as I said earlier, the "obese" factor is always a shock.

Because someone with a normal weight can go up to 25% body fat.
an obese person is at 30% body fat, which leaves only a 4% window for overweight (non obese) people.

7 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 2/21/10 - 7:44:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
I picture an obese person, since that is more common
7 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 8/24/10 - 8:24:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
A big fat tub of lard.
