Personally, I feel that Andrew Lloyd Webber both saved and ruined musical theatre, and so am obviously not a fan of the musical. However, the film is just horrible in comparison to stage productions or recordings thereof which I have seen.
And yes, it's not the original story or movie regarding the Phantom of the Opera. There is of course the book from 1910, and probably the best/most popular film adaptation is the 1925 film staring Lon Cheney.

The one that came out a few years ago? I couldn't finish it, it was pretty horrible for me. I enjoyed the actual performance a lot more. The book is also insanely superior. |
