I don't see any point to it. But I'm sure people have their reasons. |

Not in and of themselves. But some of the reasons people have for doing them are. |

My nephew got married because he and his girlfriend wanted to make love and both had taken purity vows.
Bad idea, and now they're divorced. |

What is the point of celibacy? Denial? To what purpose? Oh yeah, I remember now. Because preachers tell you to. Celibacy serves no other purpose. |

Why so judgmental about people who choose not to have sex?
Has YT always been this way, or did it start getting this way?
And I've known people who weren't religious at all and abstained from sex until they were in a committed relationship, so that whole "it's always dictated by religion" spiel is also a load of BS if I've ever read it.
Some people just aren't interested or feel more restraint than others do, and some of you are way too critical of people who view sex differently from you do. Coming from members of a site who always preach tolerance and open-mindedness toward others' beliefs, it's amazing to see how many of you are so quick to judge someone for their choice to remain abstinent. |

I don't think it is ridiculous. It is someones personal choice.
It is not something I would choose but that does not make me think badly of anyone who does choose celibacy. |

It's absolutely crazy.
I've never heard of anything quite as strange as purity-balls. Except maybe for toddler beauty pagents.
Seriously, both are very creepy. |

These "purity rings" are a sign that something is seriously wrong in society, mostly U.S. society; they're not a hit over here. |

I think, and I'm sure most of those who think purity rings are ridiculous would agree, that you should abstain from sex until your in a committed relationship with someone [you think] you love and trust...it's just stupid to wait for your relationship to be sanctioned by the church and state. |

one of my [admittedly sheltered, crazy Christian] girl friends asked me if boys ever wear purity rings.
me: uhh, yeah, I think so. [the only one I could think of was a Jonas brother. ]
her: do you?
me: ...no. |

No.
They are a ridiculous method of contraception to teach teenagers though. |

And what makes you think that having sex makes you 'impure'? |

haha that's what the kids in religious families do around here. They get married soon after high school so they can f*ck. But the way it is around here, I don't think many of them will be getting divorced, so they'll be stuck in the marriage. |

This whole thing is so, so sad. I really pity the kids who are wearing these rings. If I were a Christian I would call the rings the work of Satan. |

Norway's biggest Christian newspaper "Our Country" is warning parents about the rings. There are only a few hundred youths wearing them here, but that's a few hundred too many. |

Pray tell, what is so harmful about them that they would warrant a connection with Satan?
The things are ridiculous in my opinion, but they certainly aren't dangerous. |

@griffin: There is very fine line between "ridiculous" and "dangerous".
I'm worried about my 7yo daughter getting involved with this movement when she gets older. I hope it will have died out before she's 14 or so. |

you didn't really answer the question
what's so dangerous about it? |

I think it can feck up the young ones' minds, that's what dangerous.
I don't want my daughter to go to a shrink because she has denied herself the natural sexual experimentation.
But I' not really worried about my own daughter; to her, Santa Claus and God belong to the same category |
