I think I am. I've read many books in my lifetime, and most have been above my "reading level."
But it's all subjective. Others may say I am not well-read.

Everytime I consider myself to be well read I simply remind myself of my local library and think that I have yet to read a fraction of whats in there.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 1/1/09 - 6:17:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think I am, or at least, I aim to be. I read a lot and the books I'm into are both fiction and non, from various genres.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 1/1/09 - 6:19:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, not at all. I read a lot of techincal books and classics, but there are some genres I have yet to even peek my nose in. Esp the new stuff coming out, I usually get stuff that is 3-5 years old. That's changing though, I'm sick of my selection.

I wish.

For my age and my major, yes. For an English professor, most definitely not.

I'm well read in some areas. Others, which are of no interest to me, I prefer to ignore.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 1/1/09 - 8:08:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
I know that I'm more well read than other people in my age group, but there are still alot of the classis 'must read' books that I haven't read...

Same here.
I'm veeeeery picky about what books I read too so that doesn't help.

I am a college grad and i feel i got more useful education from all the books i have read. I could not guess how many in my life maybe 5,000 or more. I read at least 2 books a week, almost all non-fiction. Alot of history but other stuff too.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 1/4/09 - 1:55:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
I read a lot, but haven't gotten around to many of the classics (especially 20th century unless its dystopian).
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 1/4/09 - 1:58:56 AM EST (GMT-5)
For my age? Yes. In general? Definitely not.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 1/4/09 - 1:59:36 AM EST (GMT-5)
what does well read mean?
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 1/4/09 - 12:27:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think it depends on what it means to you.
8 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 1/4/09 - 12:46:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
Not really, no. I read a lot, but there are a few genres I won't touch, like sci-fi, fantasy, romance. I don't really think you can consider yourself well read if you limit yourself like that, so with that, I will never be well read.

I agree totally.

Pretty well-read, yes
8 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 3/11/09 - 7:42:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would say so. I'm not very hip on modern literature, though, besides short stories. I figure I'll get around to them in a couple of decades when they're "classics'.
8 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 6/18/09 - 5:59:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
For someone my age, yes. I'm not as well-read as I'd like to be though.
