Neither. I don't believe in salvation
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 12/13/08 - 6:56:22 AM EST (GMT-5)
Both. I could not do enough good on my own. I need God's grace. Good works are a response to God's Grace.

That is really choppy but I think it is understandable.

Do super powers come with copious amounts of Gamma rays, or copious amounts of Gamma rays and a mutant spider bite?

Same thing, more or less.

More books have been written about my version!

I consider faith to be a ridiculous criterion for salvation, and one at odds with the standard conception of God.

Yes and no? Fail

It comes by faith alone
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 12/13/08 - 3:49:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
Grace. Period. Faith is how we "earn" Grace, but it isn't actually something we earn at all... I guess it's most accurate to say that Grace is given based on Faith, but as no Faith is perfect, it has to be a gift of Grace, not actually earned. Good deeds (or Works) should be the natural product of our Faith, though, so if the Faith is real (though still imperfect), there will be Works that result from it.

It comes from the accepting of the Christ as your personal savior-

You're entitled to think it's ridiculous, but I don't think it's remotely contradictory to the standard concept of God, specifically the Western world's view of the Judeo-Christian God.
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 12/13/08 - 5:18:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
It depends on your religion.
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 12/13/08 - 6:25:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Neither. Salvation is a religious construct without external validity or existence. Neither faith, nor works, nor any combination can give you something that doesn't exist.

Or both. Since its an internal construct, whatever you believe will suffice for you.
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 12/13/08 - 6:28:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think I believe in salvation as it is meant in the question. I think people are freed from the cycle of birth/death/rebirth after they have learned all of life's lessons.

I don't believe that there is a creator. I believe in a greater power, but not a creator. And if I'm wrong about that isn't it obvious that he abandoned us long ago? There is no salvation

This question is intended towards Christian doctrines which apparently you have little grasp. Your answers Fail.

God helps those who help themselfs.

They're very similar to fire works, except that you can't see them because if you could, they wouldn't exist.

I suspect your understanding of what I do and do not grasp is minuscule, particularly in view of the fact that your opinion appears to be founded only on the fact that I disagree with certain things; this is something which alone says nothing about whether I grasp the underlying concepts. What is it that you assume I don't grasp?
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Sunday 12/14/08 - 5:18:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
Your view is agnostic but not Christian. Do you have a clear understanding of the Plan of Salvation and education of the Gospels? By your statement above it shows lack of understanding of Salvation and it's doctrinal differences of Christian sects who believe in saving by faith alone or faith with works.
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Sunday 12/14/08 - 5:27:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
Wrong.

It shows I disagree with it in the context of the properties and nature of God, as outlined in standard theism. That faith (with or without works) is an important criterion for salvation in many Christian interpretations is not something I'm denying; it's just irrelevant to my position.

Then you are saying you've had your own revelations different from what Christs teaches in the 4 standaard gospels, and the disciples in Acts and Paul and the prohpets as laid out in the bible?

Nope.
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Sunday 12/14/08 - 5:42:57 AM EST (GMT-5)
So then what do you understand about the differences between faith and faith by works towards salvation?
11 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Sunday 12/14/08 - 6:47:40 AM EST (GMT-5)
Again, not very relevant as it's the concept of faith intrinsically (whether faith by/with works) that I disagree with as a criterion for salvation. Generally, though, when talking about "works" I mean morally good actions. However, I also accept there is a more restricted sense that ties these works in with a religious lifestyle (eg, prayer, study of scripture etc) such that they are "good" often *only* in the context of faith and religion (in a way which seems related to divine command theory). But this is still not a distinction my position depends on; rather, it is doctrine-independent.

I like this question.

At first I thought neither of the options would appeal to me, then I see that the options are yes and no.

And when asked the question "Does salvation come by faith alone or by faith and your works?", the answer is clearly no. (as most people seem to agree)

It comes through relying on Amida.
