I'm sure most would agree that a lot of replies, retaliation and grudges held here just wouldn't go down well in real life. However, the insults seem to fly so easily on YT, simply because it's the internet. Freedom of speech, and all that.

But to the members who've been around for a while, have you become hardened to what offense people throw at you in the real world? Do you find yourself any more aggressive in real life than you were before you joined this online community?

We've all been newbies once, where we could disagree with opinions without backing it up with another 500 characters. We asked questions like "Why is everyone so mean?" because we didn't know the universal answer of "It's YT. Learn to cope."

So if you've changed so fast on here, has your real personality been affected too? Question Who's Online | Find Members | Private Messages

I think that just getting older has changed me. It had little or nothing to do with YT.
11 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 11/6/08 - 9:44:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, I'm not as shy as I once was. Still very shy, but not as bad.

I can honestly say yes, but not in a drastic way. It may have boosted my confidence, since I'm not passive on here and actually say what I feel.

It's also boosted because people on here notice me for who I am and what I like, which is what I'd like to be noticed for.
11 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Friday 11/7/08 - 5:15:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, it hasn't changed my personality.
11 yrs ago - Friday 11/7/08 - 9:56:12 AM EST (GMT-5)

Same here. In fact I just used the "this quote" contradicts "this other quote" thing yesterday in a txt message fight.

My personality has changed over the past six years, but I don't think YT has anything to do with it.

I was 20 when I joined. I'm turning 27 in March. I think my personality would have changed regardless.

Nope, I'm always the same

YT has really improved my logical skills. It promotes nice debate skills (although I've lately been seeing even older members resort to insults when they don't have a good counter-argument).

Socially, it hasn't really done anything. I've learned to just not initiate PMs. Not much different from my habits IRL.

The actual website hasn't changed the way I act, but my personality has changed from age 15 to 21.
6 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 2/20/13 - 5:27:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, but not because of the forum structure, but because my mom and I argued on here a lot and dealt with family bullshxt, so yeah, the site has affected me. I've had to censor myself on here to avoid people "worrying" about me. And then sometimes I go Full Electric.
6 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 3/9/13 - 4:09:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
I'm more open minded yet more cynical.
