Yes. And because Daniel Radcliffe starred in Equus they will also shag horses.

I hope there's a story behind this?
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/27/08 - 4:18:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
Why would it? The books don't involve Wicca in any way. Neither in words, or in practice.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/27/08 - 4:19:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
...Harry Potter is a cult-not to mention a huge fake. Kinda sad those kids who confuse Wicca with Hogwart's magic.
<There IS a difference between 'Magic' and 'Magick'.>
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/27/08 - 6:24:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
No . . . Harry Potter is a character in a book.

And the difference between 'magic' and 'magick' is that one is performed by bulls*** charlatans on TV living out their rock-star fantasies because David Blaine made it all popular, and the other is performed by self-deluded morons who think that chanting in a really deep, resonant tone makes them impressive.

I can only imagine that the people who conflate J. K. Rowling's stories with tales of Wicca are Wiccans who're looking for an excuse to get offended.

Wiccans aren't mentioned ONCE in the entirety of the series. So no, I very much doubt it.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/27/08 - 7:08:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm NOT wiccan. Just saying there's a difference.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/27/08 - 7:13:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
I have definitely been exposed to some rather unpleasant and alarmist people who are overly concerned that Harry Potter books will lead them to witchcraft. I had a summer job at Waldenbooks when the series was first coming out and some local church busybodies came by with pamphlets asking to take the books off the shelves.

I don't think it would leasd most kids to take up Wicca but might be a factor in a few doing so. I don't think becoming Wiccan is such a bad thing, even if its just a phase. I can think of worse things to take up...like fundamentalism or Scientology.
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 5/27/08 - 7:16:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, because Wicca's powerless.

I was being sarcastic.

Equus was a stage play Radcliffe starred in. Parts of the play involved DR on stage nude. The play is concerning his charactors obsession with a horse.
My point was that Harry Potter turning kids to Wicca is as likely as Equus turning them to bestiality.

God, you are so... biased.

Yes.

But seriously folks, Clint Eastwood is a bad influence on our children. He's going to make our little boys go out and buy pistols and horses to shoot people while riding by.

No. He's *fictional*.

no one ever said you were.
anyway, Harry Potter's just a story, just like the DaVinci Code. There's no reason to get hyped up about it.

probly not.

just as much of a chance of the Japanese animation "Bleach" will have an affect on kids, making them believe that they can convert energy into blue, shiny, destructive mass that can slice building after building in half, and make them believe that they can run at the speed of light.

I think reading Harry Potter will convince kids to read more books. At least, I hope it does.

I don't understand why people think reading is so awesome; I'm not some illiterate 'tard but just because something is written on a piece of paper doesn't automatically make it more intellectual or better than any other form of media. There's plenty of books which are pure garbage on a par with reality tv and Hollywood movies. It depends what people read.
