That'd be pretty funny, but no, I don't think they should. I'd rather have the uninformed idiots not vote then vote without knowing anything about the issues/candidates just to avoid a fine.

No they shouldn't. That goes against everything this country was founded upon. Not only should we have the right to vote, but we should have the right NOT to vote as well.

It's compulsory to vote in Australia...if you don't want to vote, give a donkey vote - you don't actually fill out the ballot paper, but you've still got your name marked off that you've voted.

It is a fined offence not to vote in Australia, but if you don't vote and refuse to pay the fine all they do is strike you from the electoral role, which means you no longer have to vote, pretty much defeating the purpose.

I thought you weren't supposed to post one word answers here.

I don't like the idea of a fine because it seems like the government would LIKE people to miss the vote so they can collect their money.

Nice try, but not the same question. Mine is specifically geared towards the US, yours is not.
Sure, it might be rejected under the old system for being too similar, but this is the new system, GTFOver it.

No.
It is my opinion that if you can't make an informed vote, then you shouldn't vote at all.

Mandating the vote would only exacerbate this problem.
