Isn't safer always smarter? How could it be smart without it being safe?

Safe is smart, but risks are important too and without rasks we wouldn't have all we have today. Which has nothing to do with the question but whatever.

Cynicism is smart, generally.

I believe it's just safer in the sense that if your expectations are low you can avoid disappointment. If one were to live their entire life being cynical they would feel cheated out of many things that they could have experienced if they had a more positive attitude. I don't believe it's worth it, and therefore is not smarter.

If your cynical for most of your life thats bad for your health, and it can also alienate alot of people. but it is a way of looking at the bad side of life with some humor...and not just any humor, u got to have wit, so I'm going with smarter.

I had a boyfriend who was cynical through and through. He was even proud of it. However, it only served to bury him into the little hole of an existence he lived and fueled his depression and lack of ambition.

In excess (as opposed to moderation), cynicism is just "safe," which doesn't mean beneficial in many cases.

Safer isn't smarter in that without taking a chance out of your safety zone, you'll forever mull around in the same swamps, experiencing no personal, social, or financial growth at all.

It's just safer. I myself am quite cynical and regard this quality to be one of my worst when it is present in my personality.

Both. Cynicism is not pessimism (for the record) There is a fine line between the two.

i.e. a cynist will be overtly skeptical; whilst a pessimist will be overtly negative without skepticism. I think just make a word up there. yay spellcheck.

I'd go for skepticism any day. But yes, it is, too, safer, since you are questioning actions and making adequate judgments (hopefully). I'd rather be safe and smart than totally dof and reckless.

I'd say it's both.

Good point, I think that's something people often confuse. I'm a cynic, but I don't consider myself to be a pessimist. I think cynicism is safe and smart... It keeps people grounded in reality.

I think safe. It's a mixture of the two, but more safe.

Both.

neither.

It's not always smart, so I'll go with safe

It's funnier, that's for sure.

I think it is more safe than smart.
