Do you think more Americans are against the Iraq war because they don`t want American soldiers to die and American money to be spent on Iraq, or because they think the war/occupation is unjust and unfair towards the Iraqis?

Definetly American losses because that is usually where our interests are. (I'm not saying that American are selfcentered but that humans generally are) Think about it, on the news they always tell us about how many US troops died and not how many Iraqis. And Cindy Sheehan did all her protesting after her son died but not before. If she thought that the occupation was unfair because of unfairness towards Iraq she would have protested when the war started.

And why can't it be both?

13 yrs ago - Sunday 3/18/07 - 9:08:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
Not saying it can't be both...and it definitely is both for a lot of people.

But many people who think the invasion was unjust think that the invaders have to shoulder the responsibility of keeping(or creating) the peace and rebuilding the infrastructure, if only to make amends.

13 yrs ago - Sunday 3/18/07 - 9:17:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
it is definately both but i am gonna have to side with the american losses just because of my background. i am a military brat, so the deaths of soldiers hits closer to home than anything else for me.
13 yrs ago - Sunday 3/18/07 - 10:27:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
most of america for losses, me personally for the iraqis
13 yrs ago - Sunday 3/18/07 - 10:30:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think a lot of people are against the war out of hatred for GW Bush...
13 yrs ago - Sunday 3/18/07 - 10:36:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
For me, it's a combination of both.
13 yrs ago - Sunday 3/18/07 - 11:50:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
Both.

I was doing candlelight peace vigils before the war started because I thought a war with Iraq would be wrong.

I hate GW Bush because I'm against the war. Not the other way around.

^^^ Agreed.

Also because of wire taping, loss of civil liberties, etc.

I think it's because people are misinformed by the hyperactive liberal media.

Oh? I personally disagree that the American media is particularly liberal. But please, explain what expression the American media gives of the war, and what the truth of the matter is (and where you get that information)

I'd like to know, since I don't really watch all that much american news.

13 yrs ago - Monday 3/19/07 - 10:02:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
A combination of the two. many who are opposed to the war are strongly against american resources and man power being wasted on what some view as being an unworthy war.
13 yrs ago - Friday 3/23/07 - 3:43:17 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think it's mostly because of American Losses. It's both as well, but people tend to care more when it's their own loved ones dieing.
13 yrs ago - Friday 3/23/07 - 3:07:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
They don't like it because they don't understand it.

War is necessary.

Besides, we're still 0, 1, 1.

This was our chance to go 1, 1, 1.

Are you telling me that you didn't start hating GWB the moment Al Gore was declared the loser?
13 yrs ago - Saturday 3/24/07 - 6:35:59 AM EST (GMT-5)
I remember that in 2000, I didn't have very strong feelings about the American presidential election at all. (I do live in another country, so foreign politics were mostly a curiousity for me...also I was just 17)

I remember thinking that Al Gore would be a slightly better choice of two decisively unglorious candidates.

After 9/11, I went with a friend of mine down to the American Embassy, signed some book and offered my condolences for the tragedy. The general feeling here was of shock and disbelief, as well as sympathy for New Yorkers and the U.S. in general.

It's amazing how quickly the war with Iraq managed to erode that goodwill.

Most people could get on board for the Afghanistan one, or at least agree to let it slide. Perhaps because it got rid of the Taliban and all, but two wars were a bit much...especially considering the lack of WMDs, and the perceived lying before the war...not to mention stuff like Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib.

13 yrs ago - Saturday 3/24/07 - 7:59:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
I like Mr Bush, to a point...and I used to support the Iraq war. However of late, I have come to wonder if there is a realistic goal, over there. Is stability in that part of the world actually attainable? If not, then our soldiers are dying for nothing and all those deaths will have been in vain when a troop withdrawl finally happens and some tin pot dictator takes over the country. I am against throwing more and more lives into a situation that ultimately is not really going to change much.
13 yrs ago - Saturday 3/24/07 - 5:46:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
In the beginning, I think it was because of how unjust it was, but at this point it's the American losses.
12 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 5/20/07 - 6:41:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
What an excellent question. I dont have alot of faith in my fellow Americans. Im pretty positive the majority of them are mostly motivated by money and they rarely slow down enough to think deeper into issues...
12 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 5/20/07 - 6:43:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
American Losses. That might make me a bad person, but oh well.
12 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 7/16/07 - 1:23:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
Ah! It is an unjust war! Of course because of American losses but more so because the whole thing is just unjust! It is both reasons for me..
12 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 7/16/07 - 5:31:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
The Iraqi people are in the middle of a civil war. Our presence there is not wanted by these people... and it isn't particularly helpful. We're trying to set up a democracy in a country where something like 85% of the people are on one side and 15% are on the other.

I don't want American soldiers to die. I don't want us to spend money on this. But also... we're not wanted there and we aren't helping.

Unfortunately, the position we've placed ourselves in will be difficult to pull back from. So... good job, current administration.

12 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Tuesday 9/18/07 - 2:34:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
I stopped believing that Americans have normal human feelings.
12 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Tuesday 9/18/07 - 2:43:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, the entire reason for starting the war, if you can even call it a war, was a lie. That's the main reason I am against it. But I also care about both American and Iraqi losses.
