The most famous story being that of Jesus, first of how he supposedly raised his friend Lazarus from the dead, and then allegedly came back himself.

Are there a lot of people that actually believe that this really happened, as stated. That if they went back in time, they could actually see a person die...stay that way for a few days, and then come back? Question Who's Online | Find Members | Private Messages

Do you honestly believe that there has ever been a case of a person actually dying, remaining dead for a number of days, and then coming back to life, through any means?

No. I don't believe it in the slightest.

I believe that people have been incorrectly percieved to be dead and then 'recovered'.

Obvious examples are people who've suffered sudden immersion in extremely cold water and undergone the supposed 'Mammalian Diving Reflex', they appear dead as they have profound bradycardia and bradypnoea, feel cold and look grey. They seem to 'come back to life' when warmed and normal circulation returns.

As for the tale of JC, it is no more based on fact than other mythical accounts in the Bible.

*perceived*

Yeah, I believe against all logic that this happened in the case of Jesus. It was a miracle.

I will when I see it.

Maybe Jesus, and that's it.

no, your cells would be irreparably damaged.

I've never heard of any sort of reasonable or scientific explanation for something like that happening, so no.

I just posted this question because I'm interested in the difference between people who identify as christians and believe in God in some way or form, without maybe believing every word literally, and people who strongly belief in the bible as literal truth.

Just Jesus. And didn't Jesus raise Lazarus or someone from the dead too?
13 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 2/5/07 - 5:31:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
Nope. Only characters like Jesus and Jean Grey can pull that off.

Someone can die for a few seconds and come back, but not over a span of days.

Jesus Christ was raised from the dead plus the unknown number of people that He himself raised from the dead. By the way the fainting theory of Jesus on the cross is totally false because the Bible records that Jesus' blood had separated into its elements, which only happens after death. The Bible has NEVER been proven wrong, not even one sentence, and other alternative thoughts such as evolution have never been proven correct, not even on one part.

Yes I do.

Maybe go into a short coma or something and come back, but I doubt they would have full, if any, brain function.

I was raised Baptist (I'm agnostic now, and I don't know if this is different in other religions) and I was always raised to believe Jesus didn't 'die' on the cross, his soul simply left his body *before* he died and went to hell for a few days to "pay for our sins," and when they were all paid off he brought Lazarus back with him and returned to his body. And apparently that's the only way he could pay for our sins, because if he actually died he would have gone to heaven, and if he sinned *then* went to hell he would be stuck there, and either way our sins would still be unpaid for.

But anyways. That's enough of Bible class.

I'd say no.

i heard of a horse jockey who 'died' (had no pulse heartbeat, brainaves) and then came back to life by medical means... im not sure how long it was. it might not be more than a technical day.

Zombies aren't mythical creatures. I've seen them. They're usually seen late at night-early morning on friday and saturday nights down town near pubs and clubs.

Death is by definition an irreversible process. If you "die" and then come back, then you obviously wasn't dead in the first place.
