It always bugs me when people talk about baby-Jesus specifically (outside the context of speaking of his birth directly of course). It seems like they are completely missing the point of what he stood for and said, if all they think about is him as a baby. (According to Christianity, a significant event to be sure, but really not the sole-point of the whole thing, is it?)

p.s. I'm perfectly aware of how me not believing in God may slant my view....which is why I'm asking YT, what do you think was the point of Christianity? Baby Jesus the benevolent baby-god, or the teachings and actions of Jesus as an adult?

I mean seriously, the way some people talk about it, you think they expect to die and go meet an actual baby in heaven.

p.p.s Sorry if I'm starting to rant

When you think of Jesus and Christianity, which mental image of Jesus do you have? Adult, or baby in a manger?

Yeah, it reminded me of how much I hate when people talk like that.

That's right!

I thought that scene was funny.

13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 1/5/07 - 3:23:32 AM EST (GMT-5)
And it made me wonder if there were actually people like that.

That's part of the reason why I thought it was funny. It fit perfectly into the whole stereotype the movie was playing up.

13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 1/5/07 - 3:30:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
I mean I've never met anybody like that. But I don't think it's that far-fetched that people like this exist. (Although admittedly it seems a bit exaggerated for entertainment purposes)
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 1/5/07 - 3:39:50 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah, you can probably find people who refer to 'baby jesus' this and that in everyday life, but it'll be harder to find someone who actually argues the point and fights to stick with it, even when confronted on it.

"Dear 8 pounds 6 ounces baby Jesus, new born, not even spoken a word, yet still omnipotent..."

Just because I keep skipping this question doesn't mean I want it to keep popping up every sixth question. I'm a Jewish Atheist, take your stupid question and shove it !

That WAS a funny scene, but I think of the adult Jesus. The baby Jesus only comes to mind around Christmastime.

The man. WHAT could he have done as a baby???

First time I even try out the 'priority question' feature, and people are already acting like I'm out to get them personally.

What the heck does your being a 'jewish atheist' have to do with anything? I'm asking about a weird occurance in popular culture. I'm an atheist myself, atheist of all religions btw. You don't have to be a christian to have a perception of what 'Jesus' looks like.

p.s. I know what you mean by 'jewish atheist' but seriously, either you're thinking of judaism like a race, in which case your post is as weird as me saying I'm a 'caucasian atheist', or you think of it as a religion, in which case you're no longer part of it if you're an atheist.

p.p.s. Get a grip man

13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 1/5/07 - 2:30:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
I picture him as a middle eastern man. Possibly with dreadlocks.
Since he was.
If I was Coptic, he would be a baby.
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Friday 1/5/07 - 2:35:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think of adult, I think of him as a teen more than a baby.
