The people I care about know how I feel, and if it's appropriate to the situation, I'll remind them.

But I don't see why I should be making people awkward by going out of my way trying to make Hallmark moments out of thin air. Do we really want our lives to be like a Disney family special? It always looks so phoney and mushy.

No, I believe you should put them off, because the words you say today will come back and bite you in the ass tomorrow. It's not work the risk of being rejected.
