Maybe not every Christian, but there are those who think that it's the only religion that is right, and everyone else is going to burn in hell.

Of course they are. Have you ever met one who was willing to accept that Jews are not going to burn in Hell?

i believe christians are extremely ethnocentric...i was raised in a catholic family...and we were taught that we were right..and we ever met someone who was not christian that we should try to change them to be like us...i realized that was wrong people should be allowed to believe what they want without being "changed"...that maybe the cristians are the only ones who are wrong

People are ethnocentric.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 11/27/06 - 1:09:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
Every religion and every culture is ethnocentric. There are missionaries of every different religion, why? Because they obviously think their way is the better way. And how about the radical Muslims trying to destroy the western world and spread Islam? Is that not ethnocentrism at its worst?
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 11/27/06 - 1:13:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes. I think any majority group, even if it's just the power of majority without being the actual majority (like males), has not only the potential, but also the *tendency* to be ethnocentric.

All groups compare themselves to other groups.

You must have a benchmark to rate other groups against, it seems sensible to use your own group as that benchmark.

Examples...

Harlequins are are better rugby team than London Irish.
Englishmen are better dressed than American men.
YTers are more eloquent than MySpacers.
Cyclists are greener than car drivers.

Some are. But all the ones I know are a lot more open minded.

you tell me of any pagan group that tries to shove their beliefs down other peoples throats. There are so many different pagan beliefs and those that i've met so far accept others choices of what they believe

There are many religions-and people, for that matter-who are ethnocentric.

Whenever I meet hardcore religious people-or just very opinionated people-they always try to change anyone who's no like them.

I hate that.

I really couldn't care less about religion.
13 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Sunday 2/18/07 - 1:45:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
Religion isn't the only thing that believes it's the center of everything, so I'll say no on this one.
13 yrs ago - Tuesday 4/3/07 - 4:26:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
i would say yes to the majority. but there are other religions that could be consided this as well.

I don't think that only Christians are ethnocentric. I think every person from every other religion or ethnicity is ethnocentric.
12 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 4/13/07 - 9:33:17 AM EST (GMT-5)
Everyone is ethnocentric; some groups of people are more so than others, though.
12 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 12/6/07 - 11:23:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
maybe not all christains, but then again this goes for all religions to an extent, i am personally tolerant of all religions though i don't believe in any of them, Islam for example is generally a very peaceful and tolerant religion, but there are a few extremists that seem to think that all other religions deserve to die, the same seems to go for the Jews thinking they own the Gaza Strip area, can't they just share it? and the christians preach that they should help others and give to charity, there are lots of christians that don't give to charity, and could care less about other people, the first christian church had so many followers because the first christians gave up everything they didn't need to charity, or to help other christians in need, in short all religions have their problems, not just christians
