Uhm... who is 'we'?

I guess I'm included in 'we', since I had it pretty bad as a kid. Not as bad as my grandparents, though I tend to think the simple things in life are easier to handle than when things get more technical and complicated, but... who am I to say which decade was better or worse? I just know it was sh*tty for me either way.

Have it worse, you mean?

I think they're better off.

13 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Tuesday 8/22/06 - 11:55:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Better and worse.

Better- they don't have as many repsonibilities.

Worse- the reason why they aren't held responsible is b/c they're all drugged up.

It get's easier every generation.

However, unfortunately...the stupidity level is rising...

Better because of the freedom. Worse because they and theirs will eventually reap the rewards of irresponsibility thanks to many parents.

13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 9/12/06 - 6:03:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think they have it worse because their parents are worse.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 9/25/06 - 9:50:02 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think they have it worse. More is expected of them at an earlier age. Children are exposed to more. When i was a kid gangs and drugs were not as predominant as they are now. I didnt worry about colledge in grade school. The phrase "Kids will be kids." was still in use. Kids had more time to be kids.

I completely agree. There is so much more to be expected of for this generation.

I think that they have it worse off. We weren't so attached to technology back then(computers, cell phones etc).

We were out 2 nights ago and we were talking to this guy who says that his kids are always on the computer and he doesn't even see them that much anymore and he feels like he doesn't know them. Another friend complains that she wants her son to go out and play like kids do but now they all go to the closest internet cafe and play games online instead of playing football, basketball etc like we did when we were kids.

Now they get computers, cell phones at a younger age which makes them more dependant on those and they don't do the same things we did when we were kids.

On a newspaper 2 days ago a boy wrote an article and it was posted on the first page. He complained that parents these days don't bother as much with their kids.

Continued.

On a newspaper 2 days ago a boy wrote an article and it was posted on the first page. He complained that parents these days don't bother as much with their kids in a way that makes you think "that boy is right".

He talked about parents focusing on work and other things like buying furniture, new cars, tvs etc and the loads they get for new houses among other things. He said that kids were better off when there wasn't a tv or a computer around so the family got together and tell stories to each other or read to each other and the parents would talk to their kids about anything and now they don't even do that anymore because there isn't any time.

It was a really good article and I think he was right about those things.

I was grocery shopping the other day and came across a children's cart that had a freakin' television inside! It was playing children's shows so that the parent could shop and the child could be entertained. I guess in that sense they have it better, because they never have to go through grocery shopping with their parents, being shoved into a cart next to the bread and jars of spaghetti sauce.

Assuming that I count as one of the "kids of today," I'd have to say we have it WAY easier. Then again, I was a total social recluse until I was about fifteen or so, so maybe I just wasn't exposed to any of the problems...
12 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 2/3/07 - 7:05:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think both. I mean in lots of ways we have it better (or easier), but there are a lot of drawbacks to living the way some do- irresponsibility, etc.
Though I think things have changed even since I was a kid, I mean, look at the playgrounds now! They're awful and extremely dull. No wonder kids are getting into so much trouble now, when they can't even find a proper playground to play on.

Most of today's kids have no morals or manners.

Not to mention you didn't have the chore of repairing the country looming on the horizon. The generation before us has, for the most part, done a sh*tty job with international affairs. We also have to deal with the $8 trillion+ national debt that needs to be paid off. Thanks mom and dad.

I have to say they have it worse.

They won't get Social Security, they have a lot more gangs, and have it harder in school. Poor them.

Lucky me, I graduated just in time.

It's about the same... it's always about the same. It may seem different, and it is, but that dosen't make it easier or harder.
12 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 7/12/07 - 7:20:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
Better in that they have more material items.
Worse in that their parents are lazier.
